The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for overseeing the Financial Accounting for Wyse Meter Solutions Inc., subsidiaries and consolidation, Financial/Operational Reporting, Governance of the business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting, Governance
- Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal and provincial regulations that affect the operations.
- Assists with managing the full cycle accounting functions, including cash flow, inventories, working capital, fixed assets, receivables, payables and General Ledger; ensure conformity to Canadian GAAP/ASPE.
- Assists with year-end audit process and dealings with external auditors.
- Understands legislative and legal agreements, bank agreements/covenants, corporate and other policies and how they impact financial statements.
- Assists with determining policies and accounting treatment for complex transactions (i.e. Securitization, borrowing arrangements, Treasury functions, intercompany, consolidation etc.).
- Identifies significant financial risk against existing internal controls, designs tests of these controls, and proposes/implements additional internal controls where necessary.
- Creates and maintains a good working relationship with internal teams and various external parties including clients, banks and investors.
- Maintains current knowledge of organizational policies and procedures, accounting standards, industry trends to identify opportunities for the organization.
Financial Operations
- Helps maintain an effective system for internal controls, journal entries, reconciliations, etc.
- Assists with monitoring and reporting on overall company financial performance.
- Identifies Accounting requirements in a proactive manner and helps implement necessary changes.
Finance
- Assists with evaluation of financial reporting systems, accounting procedures and other financial activities and make recommendations for changes to procedures, operating systems, budgets and other financial control functions to management.
- Assists with preparation of monthly Internal and External Financial Statements for Management and Board of Directors.
- Prepares working papers and other associated documents for year-end and various audit requirements, including the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations, debt schedules, etc.
- Supports lender audits on an as needed basis.
- Works with operational partners to understanding reporting requirements and design of new reports.
- Seeks process improvement opportunities within the finance and accounting functions.
- Assists with the annual budgeting process.
Overall
- Maintain inquisitive mindset and identify opportunities for improvement to process.
- Provide and maintain enthusiastic leadership and a positive working relationship with all departments to build positive employee attitudes and morale.
Required Education & Qualifications
- University Degree with a focus in business, finance or accounting.
- Professional designation – CPA.
- 3-5 years of full cycle accounting and project accounting experience.
- Experience in analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, statements, and projections.
- In-depth knowledge of tax and corporate structure (preferred).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, SQL, etc.); capable of working with large data sets.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP (preferred).
- Experience with finance, accounting (including G.A.A.P.), budgeting and asset management.
- High level of integrity, confidentially, accountability, and teamwork.
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to present analysis and finding in both verbal and written format.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative.
- Highly motivated and proactive.
