Position Description: Senior Software Engineer 

Reporting to: Director of Software Engineering 

Signal 1 helps health systems accelerate AI adoption with a category defining technology platform. Signal 1’s first product, the AI Management System (AIMS), gives health system leaders visibility and control across their growing AI portfolios. AIMS offers comprehensive oversight of predictive and generative AI applications and introduces guardrails to mitigate downside risks. It sets the standard for Responsible AI in healthcare. Purpose-built for healthcare and informed by years of experience managing AI at scale in other industries, Signal 1 empowers healthcare organizations to translate innovation into real clinical, operational, and financial outcomes. 
 
Signal 1 is a 30-person, well-funded and rapidly growing startup with strong product market fit and deployments at a growing number of top-20 US health systems. 

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering Team. You will: 

Design, build and improve the core components of the AIMS including integration framework, metric computation system, model full lifecycle management system, and model onboarding tools. 

• Prototype and ship new AI management solutions in both technological (pre-evaluation, post-evaluation, LLM monitoring, agent monitoring) and healthcare (bias, governance, compliance, performance, ROI, etc.) verticals. 

• Break down ambiguous, high-level problems into concrete technical solutions and engineering plans. 

• Work autonomously and collaboratively with Product, ML, Security, Infrastructure and other engineering teams. 

Qualifications: 

• 5+ years of experience in building backend systems and AI applications. 

• You can design and defend architecture decisions with privacy and security considerations built into your thinking. 

• You've taken a vague product requirement and shipped a working system without a detailed spec handed to you. 

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage non-technical stakeholders from business and hospital teams. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Hands-on experience with Java, Spring Boot, Python, Postgres, Azure, and Kubernetes. 

• Experience in startup or early-stage environments, including building and shipping products from 0 to 1. 

• Experience working with AI/LLMs in production, healthcare data standards (HL7/FHIR), or systems in highly regulated industries.
