The mission of the Square Marketing team is to develop and execute, data-driven marketing strategies that promote growth and engagement for Square sellers, and help sellers with their customers. We aim to provide sellers with powerful tools like Email Marketing and, Text Messaging Marketing, and to enhance brand visibility to attract new customers and retain existing ones, thereby helping them grow their business with minimal effort.
We're looking for engineers with an interest in backend/server engineering to help further enhance and improve Square Marketing product and help sellers to personalized their marketing campaigns by leveraging generative AI.
You will ...

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement comprehensive marketing and tech strategies that align with Square's overall goals.
  • Partner with Mobile, Web, Platform and AI engineers to build innovative new features for our sellers.
  • Build available and fault tolerant systems.
  • Bring high proficiency in product development, taking responsibility for delivering projects, including planning, risk management, development, testing, rollout, and maintenance.
  • Hold yourself and your team to the highest standard of engineering excellence and prioritize quality over quantity.


You have:

  • 8+ years of relevant industry experience with a B.S. degree or equivalent
  • Interest in building beautiful, refined, and intuitive products
  • Stay informed about relevant technology trends and developments and teach
  • Experience reviewing code to find and address potential issues and defects
  • Empathy for your customers and colleagues
  • Eagerness to share your own ideas, and openness to those of others
  • A comprehensive understanding of the importance of performance monitoring, logging, and telemetry
  • Experience with AWS, Ruby, Golang is recommended
