The Platform Application Services team builds and maintains foundational services that enable internal and external developers to deliver value quickly and securely. We focus on reliability, automation, and developer experience at scale.

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Platform Application Services team. In this role, you’ll lead the design, development, and evolution of core backend services and data pipelines that power developer productivity and platform reliability across Okta.

You’ll drive technical direction, mentor teammates, and collaborate across teams to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions that serve millions of users worldwide.

What You’ll Do
  • Design, build, and maintain Golang-based backend services supporting critical platform capabilities.
  • Build and maintain Postgres-backed systems for performance, reliability, and scalability, including data pipelines and Change Data Capture (CDC) workflows.
  • Familiar with CI/CD pipelines to enable fast, safe, and reliable service delivery.
  • Lead architectural discussions and technical decisions for new features and platform initiatives.
  • Identify and consolidate redundant tools and services to reduce complexity across teams.
  • Champion best practices in software design, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to align on technical direction and deliver solutions that scale globally.
  • Provide mentorship, code reviews, and technical guidance to other engineers.
  • Participate in on-call rotation to maintain platform availability and reliability.
What You’ll Bring
  • 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including designing and maintaining distributed backend systems.
  • Proficiency in Golang and strong knowledge of backend development best practices.
  • Experience with Postgres, including schema design, query optimization, and operational management.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing data pipelines and Change Data Capture (CDC) systems.
  • Familiar with CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery workflows.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, and systems design.
  • Proven ability to lead technical initiatives, mentor others, and influence engineering direction.
  • Experience building resilient, high-availability services that operate at scale.
  • Excellent communication skills and a passion for sharing knowledge through documentation and collaboration.
  • A proactive, growth-oriented mindset—continually seeking ways to improve systems and processes.
Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Skills)

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with gRPC and microservices architectures.
  • Exposure to TypeScript, JavaScript, or Node.js in a service-oriented environment.

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments.
  • Experience deploying and operating services in AWS and/or Azure environments.

Below is the annual salary range for candidates located in Canada. Your actual salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, and experience. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental, and vision insurance, RRSP with a match, healthcare spending, telemedicine, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in Canada is between:
$136,000$187,000 CAD
