A Senior Software Engineer at Realtor.com is an impactful contributor to our engineering team. You solve difficult problems, applying technologies with engineering best practices. You work with your team to design and build software that solves consumer and customer problems. You write stable code that a software engineer unfamiliar with the system can understand. You make appropriate trade-offs and re-use where possible. You work on project ideas with Product Management and engage with customers, stakeholders, and peers. You help the team by actively participating in the code review process, design discussions, and team planning.
We believe in leveraging the best tools to solve problems faster. You will be expected to utilize AI coding assistants and LLMs proficiently to accelerate development velocity, generate boilerplate, and troubleshoot complex debugging scenarios. Beyond simple usage, this role requires critical judgment to verify AI-generated outputs for security, performance, and accuracy. You should be comfortable integrating AI tooling into your daily workflow to eliminate repetitive tasks, allowing you to focus on high-impact architectural and strategic engineering challenges.
What you’ll do:
- Design and implement full‑stack features across mobile and web, including UI components, APIs, and data integrations that deliver a consistent experience for our users.
- Build and maintain responsive web and native‑feeling mobile experiences using React, Next.js, and React Native/Expo.
- Collaborate with backend teams to design and integrate GraphQL/REST APIs and data models into the UI.
- Contribute to shared design systems, component libraries, and platform utilities used across web and mobile.
- Uphold high quality through testing, CI/CD, and observability, participating in on‑call and incident response as needed.
- Mentor and support other engineers through reviews, pairing, and documentation to raise the bar for quality and collaboration.
What will you bring?
- 5+ years of experience in software development, including building modern web applications with React or Next.js, mobile applications with React Native and Expo, and backend services using Node.js or Python.
- Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript and the React ecosystem (React, React Native, Next.js).
- Familiarity with Python and its ecosystem (for example: Flask, FactoryBoy, Pytest).
- Experience with database systems and cloud platforms; AWS experience is preferred.
- Experience delivering high value to customers quickly and frequently, incorporating regular feedback and iteration.
- Experience with system design and making trade‑offs between different design approaches.
- Strong software engineering best practices (for example: testing, code reviews, documentation).
- Prior experience with Apollo GraphQL, including schema design, resolvers, and query/mutation handling.
