About the Role:

As a Senior Software Engineer reporting to the Engineering Manager of the Remittance Customer Domain team, you'll help build some of the most critical infrastructure supporting Remitly's applications. From creating core APIs for the customer lifecycle, to migrating customer data queries out of legacy systems, to implementing customer lookup and search in Customer Data Platform, you'll help lead initiatives to improve the remittance core product as well as accelerate new products at Remitly. Your strong backend experience and commitment to engineering excellence will make you a trusted resource for understanding, working in, and improving the range of services that our team owns, including

  • Legacy services - PHP, Kotlin
  • Legacy DB - AWS Aurora MySQL
  • New services - Go
  • New DB - DynamoDB

While the opportunity is primarily backend, there will also be an opportunity to optionally flex 10-20% doing frontend work, depending on the roadmap in 2025.

By collaborating with other engineers, product and design partners, working with platform teams, and contributing to the continuous improvement of Remitly's engineering systems and processes, you'll play a key role in delivering against an exciting roadmap aimed at enabling Remitly to scale its product offerings.

You Will:

  • Assist in the brainstorming, technical design, and grooming of new features with a data-driven and customer-centric viewpoint.
  • Partner with technical leads to support the architecture and technical roadmap of our software systems, balancing short-term goals with long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Adhere to our engineering standards and contribute to consistency across various codebases and processes.
  • Participate in code reviews from both internal and external partners
  • Collaborate with Product Management, Design, and other functions to develop high-quality features for our users.

You Have:

  • A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of building customer-focused software product in a team environment
  • Experience building, shipping, and maintaining reliable and scalable backend services on a public cloud platform (AWS/Azure/GCP)
  • Proficiency in one of languages like Java, C#, JavaScript, Go, Rust, Python, or Ruby
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and asynchronous programming concepts

Compensation Details. The starting base salary range for this position is typically $148,000-$180,000. In the U.S., Remitly employees are shareholders in our Company and equity is part of our total compensation plan.
