The Opportunity:

We’re looking for a seasoned Backend Engineer who builds systems with intention-robust, scalable, and engineered for the long game. You’ll work on cloud-native, data-driven platforms that power analytics, reporting, and other core investment workflows.

You’ll have the opportunity to learn and lead

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable APIs, microservices, and backend services that power analytics, insights, and reporting.
• Collaborate with frontend, data, and product teams to build seamless workflows with reliability, clarity, and long-term maintainability.
• Partner with platform and data engineering teams to ensure smooth integration between applications, warehouses, lakehouses, and analytical pipelines.
• Champion modern engineering practices—automation, CI/CD, observability, cloud deployment standards, and operational excellence.
• Conduct thoughtful code reviews, drive testing best practices, and troubleshoot issues with rigor and care.
• Bring a fearless, well-reasoned voice to architectural discussions and technology roadmap planning.
• Foster trust and alignment through clear communication and authentic collaboration.

What You Bring

• 7+ years of experience in backend software development, ideally within data-intensive or analytical domains.
• Strong experience designing and implementing APIs, microservices, and distributed systems.
• Hands-on development experience in .NET and/or Node.js.
• Familiarity with frontend frameworks such as React or Next.js for effective cross-team collaboration.
• Hands-on experience with cloud environments—preferably Azure—for application hosting, storage, and data integration.
• Understanding of warehouse or Lakehouse architectures (Azure Synapse, Databricks, Snowflake) and how they support analytics and reporting.
• Strong grasp of design principles: modularity, scalability, SOLID, clean architecture.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation, and deployment tooling (Azure DevOps or similar).
• Ability to translate business requirements into thoughtful, scalable technical solutions.
• A working style grounded in Picton’s core values—ownership, collaboration, fearlessness, authenticity, and performance.

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of event-driven architectures (Event Grid, Event Hubs, Kafka).
• Experience with containerization and IaC: Docker, Terraform, Azure Container Apps.
• Understanding of identity and access management (OAuth2, Azure AD, JWT).
