Equitable Interview

As we continue to scale our team, candidates selected for our comprehensive interview process may be considered for a different level — either higher or lower — based on their interview performance. This equitable hiring approach allows us to ensure that talented individuals from a variety of industries are set up for long-term success within EQB’s dynamic, growing environment. Our goal is to support candidates in building lasting careers, rather than relying solely on perceived experience. The hiring committee will thoughtfully assess each candidate’s skills and potential, and adjust the level of the role as needed to create the best possible fit.

Purpose of Job

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and execution of comprehensive test strategies, focusing on automation, scalability, and continuous improvement. You will work closely with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, and business to embed quality at every stage of the software development lifecycle. In addition to hands-on testing responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers, support test infrastructure improvements, and serve as a key quality advocate within the team.

Accountability

The incumbent reports to the Manager, Quality Engineering and works closely with Lead Quality Engineers and Development Managers. They are expected to provide regular updates on test execution, automation progress, and quality metrics, and raise potential risks to timelines or quality standards. The incumbent will act as a senior quality expert, supporting and guiding team members on best practices, tools, and test coverage strategy.

Main Activities:

  • Design and implement scalable automation frameworks and reusable test components across UI, API, and mobile platforms.
  • Lead the quality planning effort on complex features and integrations, ensuring risk-based test coverage.
  • Collaborate with development teams to embed quality early through test-driven and behavior-driven development practices.
  • Create and maintain CI/CD integrated automated test pipelines and tooling for continuous feedback.
  • Drive improvements in the team's quality engineering practices, tooling, and documentation.
  • Partner with Lead QE to define test scope, provide estimates, and contribute to risk assessments.
  • Act as the primary contact for defect triage, root cause analysis, and data-driven quality reporting.
  • Own and drive non-functional testing initiatives such as integration testing and contribute to performance and resiliency testing as needed.
  • Mentor and support junior QEs by reviewing test cases, automation code, and providing feedback.
  • Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions from a testability and quality standpoint.
  • Escalate quality issues with context and solutions to the QE Manager in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to configuration and maintenance of test environments and data sets.
  • Support UAT activities by coordinating testing efforts, reproducing issues, and ensuring test traceability.

Qualifications and Skill Set:

  • 6+ years of experience in Software Quality Engineering or Test Automation roles.
  • 3+ years of experience in UI and API automation using tools such as Selenium WebDriver, Cucumber (BDD), Postman, and JavaScript/Java-based frameworks.
  • University Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical degree or equivalent experience is required
  • Solid hands-on experience in microservices testing and test strategies around service contracts, API gateways, and distributed systems.
  • Hands-on to mobile testing frameworks such as Appium and test automation for iOS and Android.
  • Strong programming skills in Java and/or JavaScript, with the ability to debug and build automation solutions from scratch.
  • Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, CI/CD practices, DevOps tooling (Azure DevOps/GitHub)
  • Develop and maintain quality metrics, reporting on test coverage, defect trends, and automation effectiveness.
  • Working knowledge of service virtualization tools (eg: Parasoft/Smartbear/IBM Rational Tester), and log analysis platforms (eg: Kibana, Splunk).
  • Proficient in writing SQL queries and validating back-end database transactions.
  • Comfortable working across Agile delivery models, with strong awareness of in-sprint testing and shift-left approaches.
  • Proficiency with JIRA, Confluence, Zephyr/TestRail/Xray, and test management best practices.

Additional Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience with Temenos, VisionPlus orother core banking platforms.
  • Experience working with test data management tools like Delphix or CA TDM.
  • Exposure to cloud-native architectures, containerization (Docker)
  • Familiarity with performance, accessibility, and security testing tools is a plus.

Job Complexities / Thinking Challenges

  • Ability to balance hands-on testing responsibilities with test planning and coordination of mid-size initiatives.
  • Must operate independently on test scope, implementation decisions, and automation priorities.
  • Be proactive in identifying technical and functional gaps and recommending quality improvements.
  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills when dealing with integration issues or systemic defects.
  • Must be able to mentor and lead by influence, even if not directly managing team members.
