Network Engineer – Lead/Manager

POSITION LOCATION

YOUR ROLE

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Network Lead Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This role involves developing a team of network engineers, overseeing junior team members, providing technical expertise in network and network security, and managing independent projects. A successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation and administration of network hardware and software through providing direction to a team of network engineers including managed service engineers. In addition, this individual will enforce Genworth network security policies and ensure that all compliance activities are executed in a timely manner. This individual will improve documentation and reporting capabilities and will collaborate with other teams, leads and vendors to assist with Genworth’s network security initiatives and strategy both on premise and in the cloud.

What you will be doing

  • Design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and resolve technical problems promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with security policies and best practices, conducting regular assessments and audits.
  • Develop a team of network and network security engineers.
  • Provides mentorship and technical leadership for existing network team members & partner teams during outages, downtimes where both technical and business communication skills are vital.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members in network operations and security practices.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support career development.
  • Provide technical direction and insight for problem management, projects, and operations.
  • Provide operational support for a multi-vendor, multi-region production network.
  • Improve documentation and reporting capabilities in support of operations and compliance demands.
  • Provide oversight on security policy implementation.
  • Lead and manage network-related projects from concept to implementation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Prepare project documentation, including plans, reports, and status updates.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously on complex network tasks and projects.
  • Stay current with industry trends and technologies to recommend improvements and innovations.
  • Participate in the organization’s strategic planning, identifying strategic initiatives, quantifying their benefits through a business case, and advocating for inclusion in the organization’s program portfolio.
  • Deal with escalations. Make assessments, recommendations or provide solutions to resolve issues.

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or equivalent.
  • 10+ years of experience with core networking in an enterprise environment, ideally global.
  • Proven experience in network management and security, with a minimum of 5 years in a similar role.
  • Strong understanding of network protocols such as TCP/IP, BGP, IPsec, etc.
  • Strong understanding of network security concepts such as VPN, firewalls, IDS/IPS, etc.
  • Experience with network monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents assigned to the network queue by Service Desk, Users, and Monitoring systems in both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to quickly understand and take ownership of network security toolsets.
  • Experience in cloud and hybrid networking in AWS, Azure, GCP, etc.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, Security+, CISSP) are highly desirable.
