Senior Mechanical Engineer

Reporting to the Director of Retube Tooling Design, the Senior Mechanical Engineer would support one of the various Refurbishment or New build projects on the Retube Tooling team. This knowledgeable engineer will be responsible for executing commercial and internal work packages and projects, with respect to machine design and process systems including other closely related disciplines.

This role will be based in Pickering, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Perform conceptual and detail design engineering work on mechanical equipment and Retube Tooling systems.
  • Perform project lead responsibilities by guiding technical staff on a variety of tasks in design, development, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, testing and commissioning.
  • Prepare/review design documentation such as design requirements, design descriptions, design specifications, technical specifications, component specifications, test procedures and plans, commissioning procedures, registration design submissions packages, flow sheets, detail drawings, general arrangements, and equipment layouts.
  • Review design reports, analysis reports, calculations, documents, and drawings in support of design verification.
  • Perform/review complex technical calculations relevant to design such as heat load analysis, fluid mechanics, and calculations related to component integrity.
  • Conduct technical, conceptual and detail design meetings in front of peers, clients and suppliers.
  • Provide technical guidance to design drafting staff as well as mentoring and oversight of junior engineers.
  • Work in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulations, client and company procedures.

The ideal candidate:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics from an accredited University with a minimum 10 years of experience in machine, automation, equipment and/or tooling design.
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, as Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.
  • Solid understanding of mechanics of machine, mechanics of materials, material selection and fundamentals of machine component design.
  • Knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section II, III, V, VIII and IX is an asset.
  • Knowledge of general requirements for pressure-retaining systems and components in CANDU nuclear power plants CSA N285.0 code is an asset.
  • Knowledge of boiler, pressure vessel, and pressure piping CSA B51 code is an asset.
  • CAD experience in Solid Edge or Solid Works is an asset.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
