What You’ll Be Doing

As a Sr. Manager, Trading Credit Risk Adjudication (TCR) you will report to the VP , TCR and will be responsible for a portfolio of trading relationships and accounts that supports our CIBC Capital Markets business globally across Canada, New York, London, and Hong Kong. Trading Credit Risk Adjudication oversees Capital Markets management of trading credit risk with the support of the other Capital Markets Risk Management teams. You will be responsible for the adjudication, credit risk decisioning, determination of credit risk covenants, and monitoring of your portfolio spanning various trading and financing products including metal leases and loans, OTC derivatives, securities financing, equity margin and prime brokerage margin loans, etc. Trading counterparties primarily consist of Mining, refining and industrial corporates with precious metals facilities, sophisticated non-bank financial institutions such as pension funds, hedge funds, variety of investment funds, brokers, insurance companies, and central clearing counterparties. This role requires a strong working partnership with the trading floor and Corporate Banking relationship managers to understand business requirements and assisting in the appropriate structuring of facilities. Prior experience with Commodity products including precious metals facilities is an asset. You will work in a fast-paced and dynamic team environment where time pressures demand quick response and sharing of skills and knowledge is critical.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Credit Adjudication – You will review and recommend approval of credit applications submitted by Corporate Banking ensuring trading facilities are appropriately structured and supported by thorough analysis and well-executed interpretation of relevant financial, industry, business and market information. You will actively monitor the credit quality and global credit exposure of the portfolio by remaining current with the customer base, industry and economic trends and relevant world press.

  • Advisory – You will be required to provide advice to other areas in the Bank (specifically Corporate Banking relationship managers) on the credit risks associated with derivative products and financing facilities and the assessment methodologies used by TCR.

  • Enhance Industry/Product Knowledge – You will investigate and research new and existing derivative products and financing facilities offered by Capital Markets in order to understand potential risks to the Bank. You will develop, recommend to senior management, and implement strategies and policies for the management and mitigation of credit risks associated with these products.

  • Policy and Documentation – You will make recommendations relative to policy as it relates to credit issues applicable to assigned industry/portfolio. This includes developing a strong understanding of derivatives and financing policies and contribute to implementing updates and improvements to suit the needs of clients. You will also work closely with documentation personnel and CIBC’s Legal Division in order to remain current with and continually improve methods for dealing with legal issues relating to derivative and financing products.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate experience in analyzing financial statements in order to assess credit risks utilizing strong analytical skills. You should have strong knowledge of, and experience in dealing with, the credit risks associated with various trading room products including derivatives and financing products. Working experience in Corporate credit is preferred. You should possess strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate complicated concepts and financial data to senior management. Have advanced technical skills including Excel and other Microsoft Office products. Have well developed decision-making and excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities with different priorities.
