Our finance professionals play an essential role in maintaining a healthy balance sheet at AIG. They deliver significant finance support for the overall enterprise, optimizing operations, funding and capital structure to honor our commitments to our stakeholders. They inform the decisions of AIG executives and comply with regulatory requirements, maintaining financial discipline, transparency and controls, while providing timely and meaningful information.
Within the Finance team, the Controllership group manages the financial close process on both a USGAAP and IFRS basis. The team is responsible for internal and external financial reporting and audits including quarterly submissions to our regulators and various governing bodies.
We are looking to hire a core team member of AIG Canada’s Controllership team responsible for internal and external financial reporting.
How you will create an impact
- External Audit by PwC.
- Support preparation of annual audited financials and notes disclosures.
- Prepare specific sections of the audited notes disclosures.
- Provide support in addressing audit queries relating to Financial Reporting.
- Local Canadian Statutory (IFRS) Close.
- Review statistical P&C return pages on by line of business/province/accident year splits plus certain local solvency test calculations prepared by Finance Centre Team (Team) for quarterly and annual filings to federal and provincial regulators.
- Provide support in review of P&C return pages filed with regulators.
- Prepare Legal Entity variance analysis – for balance sheet, income statement and loss ratio walks.
- US GAAP Close.
- Review and monitor IBNR HUB postings/results.
- Generate Legal Entity P&L for internal management reporting.
- Review/approve journal entries prepared by Team.
- Review and perform oversight on foreign exchange (FX) re-measurement and translation results and deep dive for FX related analysis and problem resolution when required.
- Review Balance Sheet reconciliations in the Blackline system.
- Manage tie-ins of underwriting related balance sheet and P&L measures.
- Review financial statements for Holding Company- prepared for tax provisions as standalone legal entity.
- Provide guidance and review deliverables from Team on specialty product lines – Warranty, Expedia Travel, Self-Insured Retention/High Deductible.
- Mentor Team on best practices and process improvements.
- Review filings to respective Statistical agencies.
- IFRS 17 System Implementation and BAU Operationalization.
- Participate as AIG Canada team member in standing up the IFRS 17 calculation engine and building processes and controls for BAU operationalization for Controllership stream.
- Others Ad hoc projects and remediation initiatives when required.
What you will need to succeed (subject to change)
- Proven level of relevant accounting and financial reporting experience. Insurance accounting experience preferred.
- Professional accounting designation preferred.
- Effective team player.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Excellent PC spreadsheet skills (Excel)
- Strong communication skills (both written & oral) and interpersonal skills to effectively work with different departments.
- Strong analytical, planning and organization skills.
- Proven ability to perform well under pressure and regularly meet strict deadlines a fast-paced environment.
