What You’ll Be Doing

CIBC National Accounts  is a specialized team of banking professionals within CIBC’s Commercial Bank serving upper middle-market and public clients in Canada.  CIBC National Accounts specializes in structuring and managing larger credit facilities and syndicated bank transactions.  The goal of the group is to expand CIBC’s market share in this important segment of the banking landscape in Canada.  Key identifiers for National Accounts within CIBC include: Clients or prospects that require a syndicated bank facility, typically three or more banks; CIBC credit facilities of $50 million or larger; transactions that are sizeable and/or of a higher level of complexity, including cash flow based loans, that will have an above average impact on business results.

Reporting to the Vice President, National Accounts, the Senior Manager / Director, National Accounts will be responsible for all business development activities, client coverage, overseeing loan underwriting and portfolio management.  You will manage a portfolio of existing accounts, drive new client acquisitions, and provide ideas and advice that will achieve clients’ objectives. You will work with a number of partners and senior leaders internally to support a wide range of clients and to drive cross-selling efforts.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Business Development - Plan, implement and maintain an effective business development strategy to expand and protect share of National Account clients, utilizing an extensive network of referral resources. Interfacing at the Senior Executives level, this role will apply a professional and consultative sales and business development approach to ensure the identification, negotiation, structuring and provision of the underwriting for unique, complex credit transactions with upper middle market and public clients.

  • Market Expertise - Understand local and national markets and remain current with short- and medium-term business and economic trends. Responsible for overseeing in-depth company, industry and portfolio analysis, supporting the credit relationships for a portfolio of National Accounts clients. Be highly visible in the marketplace to proactively, and with a long-term focus, develop an internal and external network of referral sources that effectively generates prospects for new business.

  • Credit - Oversee the on-going monitoring of the terms and conditions of approved credit arrangements and appropriately identify any relevant changes in the financial condition/business of a client. Ensure that the portfolio meets appropriate risk management guidelines and remains current with changing methodologies. Provide sound, timely, and well-communicated recommendations for credit facilities supported by a thorough analysis and well-executed interpretation of relevant financial, industry, business, and market information. Act as a subject matter expert as it relates to complex financing structures.

  • Partnership - Engage with CIBC partners and functions including Loan Syndications, Investment Banking, Mid-Market Solutions, Cash Management, Trade Finance, Wealth Management and Retail Banking to develop and implement strategies for each client and prospect to meet their strategic goals.

  • Due Diligence - Responsible for overseeing due diligence with regard to activities of many parties including Legal, Trading Documentation and Corporate and Commercial Credit Risk Management.

Who You Are

  • You have a degree in finance, economics, or another complementary business industry discipline.

  • You have a minimum of 6 years (10 years for a Director role) of related experience. MBA, CFA or other relevant professional designation preferred. You have demonstrable skills in credit analysis and deal-making. Thorough understanding of Corporate Finance theories and practices, well-developed financial analysis and financial modeling skills.

  • You have strong analytical skills including extensive experience in analyzing financial statements in order to assess credit risk and the ability to assess capital structure, financial requirements, and risk considerations.

  • You are a strong communicator. You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English to effectively communicate complicated concepts and financial data, and a strong EQ to navigate complex organizational needs.

  • You can demonstrate well-developed problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • You possess a consulting mentality and an ability to address client strategic issues.

  • You have excellent organizational and time management skills to deal with multiple and sometimes conflicting demands and time constraints. You have excellent adaptability and flexibility to deal with a rapidly changing environment.

  • You have demonstrated job commitment including a willingness to work extended hours and personal flexibility and adaptability in order to meet client requirements.

  • You have unquestioned professionalism, ethics and reputation. You have an approach to the workplace that is based on open communication and a team atmosphere.
