Job Description

Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel will support Tricon Residential’s businesses on all real estate transactional matters and will be responsible for managing legal risks arising from various strategic initiatives. The Senior Legal Counsel will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders with respect to all legal aspects of our real estate transaction activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage all legal aspects of Tricon Residential’s commercial and residential real estate acquisition & dispositions while working in close collaboration with Tricon’s investment team and outside counsel.

  • Lead and provide oversight on the structuring, negotiating, and drafting of joint ventures, financings, leases, and other operative agreements.

  • Manage the legal aspects of Tricon Residential’s real estate development and property management business, working closely with the development and management teams and outside counsel.

  • Provide practical and risk analyzed advice on issues arising from Tricon Residential’s various businesses and affairs.

  • Advise on and negotiate commercial agreements, including major supplier agreements.

  • Provide support on a wide range of Legal Department priorities and initiatives.

  • Monitor and keep abreast of legal developments and legislative changes that may impact the business and corporate objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Law Degree (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor Degree (J.D.) from a recognized law school.

  • Call to the Bar of Ontario; active member in good standing.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ post call experience from a Canadian law firm and/or a reputable in-house legal environment.

  • Experience and knowledge of real estate transactions, leasing, financings, and real estate development and/or property management.

  • Experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and transaction documents.

  • Credibility and presence to interact with, and present to, senior team members and executives internally and externally.

  • Superior problem-solving skills and legal judgment, highest ethical standards, independent judgment and a desire to take initiative.

  • A team player who works well in a friendly, dynamic, fast-paced and hands-on operating environment with a passion for learning the business.

  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Adaptability and flexibility with a pragmatic and business-focused approach to legal issues.
