We’re looking for an experienced, commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to join Orion Health’s global legal team.

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, who is based in New Zealand, you’ll play a key role in delivering legal support to Orion Health while also partnering with other businesses across the HEALWELL AI group. This is an opportunity to work across a diverse range of commercial, technology and strategic legal matters, supporting organisations that are helping transform healthcare through digital innovation, data and AI.

This is a broad, hands-on role suited to an experienced in-house lawyer who enjoys autonomy, thrives in a fast-paced technology environment and wants to be a genuine business partner. You’ll work closely with leaders across Product, Sales, Professional Services, Customer Success and Corporate Services, helping teams navigate complex legal issues while enabling commercial outcomes.

While your primary focus will be supporting Orion Health, you’ll also have the opportunity to contribute legal expertise across other HEALWELL AI businesses as they continue to grow globally. You’ll be trusted to lead complex matters independently while collaborating closely with colleagues across multiple jurisdictions.

What you’ll be doing

As Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll:

  • Provide commercially focused legal advice to Orion Health and other businesses across the HEALWELL AI group.
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on complex technology, SaaS, software licensing, services and commercial agreements with customers, suppliers and strategic partners.
  • Lead negotiations on bespoke commercial arrangements and major customer transactions.
  • Support strategic business initiatives, new commercial opportunities and cross-functional projects.
  • Advise on a broad range of commercial, corporate, employment, property and dispute-related matters as they arise.
  • Assist with responses to RFPs, contract strategy and complex customer engagements.
  • Support compliance with corporate governance obligations across Canada and, where required, international jurisdictions.
  • Engage and manage external legal advisors across multiple jurisdictions, where specialist advice is required.
  • Stand in for the General Counsel when appropriate and provide leadership across legal matters.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of legal processes, templates and knowledge resources.

About you

You’re an experienced technology lawyer who enjoys solving complex business problems.

You understand that effective in-house lawyers balance commercial objectives with legal risk and know how to communicate practical advice that helps the business move forward confidently.

You’ll bring:

  • Approximately 10+ years’ post-qualification experience, ideally combining private practice with significant in-house experience.
  • Extensive experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian commercial and contract law.
  • Experience supporting technology, software, SaaS or digital businesses.
  • A working knowledge of privacy and data protection law is preferred. Experience advising on privacy matters within healthcare or technology would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Excellent commercial judgement and the confidence to independently manage complex legal matters.
  • Outstanding communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Resilience, adaptability and the confidence to work comfortably through ambiguity.
  • A practical, solutions-focused mindset with a healthy sense of humour.
  • A law degree, and a license to practise in the Canadian province in which you are based.

Experience within healthcare technology, digital health or AI-enabled software businesses would be highly advantageous, but is not essential.

Salary: CAD $150,000–$180,000 base salary.
