The Role

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Toronto office. Proofpoint Email Archiving is a cloud-based solution featuring a distributed grid search and storage infrastructure. This service-based architecture scales to meet the needs of hundreds of clients, including some of the world's largest businesses.

As a member of the Archiving eDiscovery team, you will develop and maintain back-end services and infrastructure. The ideal candidate is strategic, self-motivated, creative, and highly communicative, both verbally and in writing, and can adapt quickly to a fast-paced, evolving environment.

This is a hands-on role, where you will design and own key back-end components of the eDiscovery product, solve complex issues, and implement intricate business requirements. While the focus is on back-end development, the ability and willingness to work on front-end tasks is also valued.

Your Day-to-Day

  • Collaborate with product managers to define and refine feature requirements.

  • Work with the scrum master, technical leaders, and manager to ensure designs meet product requirements and resolve technical constraints while ensuring timely delivery.

  • Participate in Agile/Scrum processes, including daily scrums, retrospectives, planning, and demos.

  • Continuously seek improvements in product and development processes.

  • Provide technical expertise to support/sustaining teams to resolve critical production issues.

  • Ensure high-quality code by practicing continuous integration with unit tests, source control, and integrated build processes.

  • Research and implement new technologies into development practices.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience delivering production software with demonstrated expertise in Java and related frameworks.

  • Experience with Solr, OpenSearch, Kafka, Kubernetes, Terraform, AWS S3, EC2, Bedrock, and SES.

  • Solid understanding of Spring REST API development.

  • Strong skills in back-end development and the ability to work on front-end tasks when needed.

  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex issues and find effective solutions.

  • Ability to dive into documentation of new processes or frameworks and bring understanding back to the team.

  • Self-starter with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Able to communicate technical solutions and designs well to different stakeholders.

  • Experience with project management and task tracking tools like Jira.

  • Proficiency with source control tools such as GitHub and Bitbucket.

  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and manage multiple assignments.

  • University degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

What Makes You Stand Out

  • Experience with front-end frameworks such as Ember.js, React, Angular, or Vue.js.

  • Knowledge of TypeScript.

  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems.

  • Familiarity with cloud-native architectures and microservices.
