About the role
The Finance and Facilities Division is led by the Chief Financial Officer and includes accounting, operational, tax, and facilities functions and roles supporting OPTrust investment and pension activities.
The Senior Financial Reporting Analyst will provide financial and accounting expertise for both external and internal financial and management reporting and analysis at OPTrust. This position will also support the external financial reporting and audit processes, and any disclosures and accounting for the consolidated financial statements of OPTrust.
What you’ll do
1. Coordination & Communication
Manages and co-ordinates the annual financial statements and external audit; prepares reports to the Audit Committee as applicable.
Prepares in-depth monthly written, graphical and quantitative analysis of the Total Fund investment portfolio, identifying trends and variances.
Ensure the monthly financial reporting packages are completed accurately and on a timely basis.
Assists in the completion of the external benchmarking surveys, by collecting the relevant information from other departments and ensuring the date integrity.
Prepares financial and accounting functions, to support the monthly and ad hoc reporting of Total Fund and other business needs.
2. Change Management & Process Enhancement
Responsible for developing business analysis and processes to ensure data alignment and consistency between systems.
Prepares and maintains query and reporting tools to automate analyses and reporting processes, to support financial reporting and business processes from the Oracle Financials, Yardi, Northern Trust, and other investment systems.
Identifies process inefficiencies and executes process improvement changes.
3. Research & Analysis
Keeps abreast of emerging current accounting and regulatory issues and develops accounting practices, guidelines and reporting disclosures for new standards.
Analyzes and reviews financial information to ensure that it is reasonable, complete and accurate.
What you bring
Recognized accounting designation (CPA) or related investment designation with minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in financial and management reporting and financial and investment analysis.
Demonstrated knowledge of investment accounting systems (Oracle, Eagle Star, Yardi, etc.).
Experience with investment activities to prepare, review, and analyze complex financial and investment.
Demonstrated knowledge of IFRS and guidance from other pension regulatory bodies (ie. FSRA, PBA).
Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to deal internally and externally with all levels.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated organizational skills to effectively balance multiple tasks and prioritize work.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and PowerPoint) and working knowledge of programming languages are considered an asset.
Experience with external financial statement and audit processes is an asset.
