Job Description
Working at BlackBerry’s headquarters in Waterloo, ON or remote, the Senior Financial Accounting Analyst will join a team of dynamic and experienced finance professionals on the Company’s accounting team. Reporting to the Manager, Financial Accounting, the position will lead accounting related projects, including researching technical accounting guidance related to revenue and complex transactions, writing accounting position memos and benchmarking industry financial reporting practices.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Conduct thoroughly researched and supported accounting analyses on routine and non-routine transactions in order to determine the proper treatment under U.S. GAAP
- Perform corporate contract reviews for accounting recognition considerations and collaborate with Sales, FP&A, Legal, and other departments relative to contract negotiations or new product offerings to provide guidance on technical accounting, policies, and processes
- Ensure compliance with multiple-performance obligation accounting, standalone selling price establishment, and contract modification accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies
- Ensure compliance with lease accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and internal policies
- Responsible for the Company’s equity related filings with regulatory authorities and the accounting for stock compensation
- Responsible for the monthly and quarterly accounting of the company’s treasury activities such as investment activity and hedging, through the company’s treasury management system
- Assist with designing and implementing internal controls as well as maintenance of the internal control environment
Qualifications/Experience:
- Canadian or United States CPA designation is required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related major is required
- 3+ years’ experience including public accounting experience is preferred
- Audit experience or experience with a Big Four firm is preferred
- A solid technical accounting background, including the ability to research and analyze accounting standards and a history of dealing with complex accounting transactions, and determining the impact of changing accounting guidance
- Experience with U.S. GAAP is preferred
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate technical revenue issues in a business-like, non-technical manner to other teams internally
- The ability to think strategically and effectively work across functions to resolve complex business problems
- Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced spreadsheet modeling
