The Quality and Automation team is essential in guiding Square's Automation Engineering division to deliver high-performance, reliable experiences for Square's customers (Sellers) by strategically investing in test automation. The team also develops and maintains a cohesive set of frameworks, tools, and processes to enable teams to monitor and improve the experiences of both Sellers and buyers on a large scale. Additionally, the team actively monitors for signs of business or engineering issues and leads cross-functional teams to resolve these challenges.
As a senior engineering manager on the Automation team, you will lead a team focused on investing in automation, frameworks across Mobile apps and Web. We work to improve the coverage and build infrastructure for test automation for Square's mobile apps along with Square's web footprint. We also develop tools and accompanying processes to enable engineering teams to collect and prioritize work with automation data and metrics, analytics (and more).

You Will:
- Lead a foundational, multi-disciplinary team of iOS, Android and web automation engineers working on projects with wide impact across the company
- Define a compelling vision for the Square Automation engineering team to improve our products' performance and reliability
- Cultivate an excellent organization by hiring remarkable talent, coaching your team, fostering principled and collaborative engineering decision-making, and applying your technical expertise to maintain a high bar
- Oversee the success of your teams' products, establish and achieve quantifiable results
- Collaborate and build strong, long-term strategic partnerships with multiple stakeholders across the company including product, design, legal, support, and other engineering teams
- Work closely with your technical leads to negotiate priorities and grow the existing team to achieve those goals
- Guide, organize, and communicate the team's quarterly objectives and accomplishments
- Mentor engineers and help cultivate their career aspirations
Qualifications
You Have:
- 12+ years of relevant industry experience, including 4 or more years experience managing software engineering teams
- Experience leading, managing, and building a team of accomplished software engineers
- Demonstrated leadership and collaboration with co-workers on other teams and in other locations
- Ability to provide technical mentorship and career guidance to team members
- Experience in software development or test automation on Android and/or iOS, including using off-the-shelf and purpose-built tooling to analyze and improve application performance and reliability.
- Experience working on tools or software development across Web
- Proven record of successfully delivering large platform initiatives and/or features (spanning ~1+ year) from start to finish with strong collaboration, communication, and ownership
- Experience collaborating with engineering leaders and cross-functional team members
