Job SummaryAs a Senior Electrical Designer, you will play a key role in the design and delivery of electrical systems for mining and industrial projects, supporting all phases of project execution from concept development through detailed engineering and construction support. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, high-quality design solutions that meet client requirements, applicable codes and standards, and project objectives. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to mentor junior designers while contributing to the successful delivery of complex projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Design & Engineering
- Develop detailed electrical design deliverables for mining and industrial facilities, including power distribution, grounding, lighting, equipment layouts, cable routing, and associated design documentation.
- Produce and review electrical drawings, models, and design packages in accordance with project requirements and company standards.
- Prepare design calculations, equipment layouts, installation details, and material take-offs to support procurement and construction activities.
- Ensure designs comply with applicable industry codes, standards, and client specifications.
- Execute electrical design activities across multiple projects while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Coordinate with electrical engineers and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design challenges and ensure integrated project execution.
- Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and technical discussions with internal stakeholders and clients.
- Support project planning by providing input into design estimates, schedules, and resource requirements.
- Interface with vendors and suppliers to review technical documentation and incorporate equipment information into design deliverables.
- Respond to requests for information (RFIs), review contractor queries, and provide technical support during procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Assist with site visits, field investigations, and verification activities as required to support project execution.
- Perform quality reviews of electrical design deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established standards.
- Promote safe design principles and contribute to a culture focused on health, safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and intermediate designers, sharing best practices and supporting professional development.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes, standards, and workflows.
- Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of electrical design experience in mining, industrial, or heavy industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of electrical power distribution systems, industrial electrical installations, and relevant codes and standards.
- Experience preparing electrical design drawings, layouts, specifications, and construction documentation.
- Proficiency with industry-standard electrical design and drafting/modeling software.
- Ability to interpret engineering documents, technical specifications, and vendor information.
- Strong coordination skills with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within project deadlines.
- Experience mentoring junior team members and providing technical leadership is considered an asset.
