The role
Come work at the intersection of technology and personal finance. We are seeking a Senior Director of Software Engineering to join the SoFi Lending Technology team. SoFi’s lending business is a multi-billion dollar a year business with strong market share in some key market segments and big growth plans in others. We offer mortgage, home equity, personal, and student loans.
You will be in the middle of it all – building products used by millions of members, creating a strong culture of teamwork and technical performance, and continually growing as a senior technical leader. The ideal candidate is both forward-thinking and hands-on, has a strong sense of ownership and drive for delivery, and is a good mentor and co-worker. At SoFi, we pride ourselves on the collaboration between Product, Design and Engineering. You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from ideation through building, deploying and continual improvement and evolution.
What you’ll do:
- Lead an engineering organization of 70+ including 3 senior manager direct reports, 5 managers, and principal engineers covering some key functional domains in support of SoFi’s lending business - underwriting, servicing, collections, and capital markets. The senior managers each have ~20 years of engineering experience and 5-10 years experience as engineering managers.
- Collaborate closely with Product Management on features to ensure the right products are delivered to SoFi customers.
- Lead the efforts for technical design, product development, testing, deployment, ramping, and on-going support.
- Work with cross-functional stakeholders in the different lending business units, credit risk, pricing, marketing, enterprise risk, and other technology teams.
- Work with the rest of the lending technology senior leadership team to make annual and quarterly plans and communicate effectively to other teams in technology and the business units.
- Contribute to the technical strategy for the lending technology team and SoFi overall. Influence our lending business strategy through product design and a sustained high pace of new feature development.
- Guide the organization through continued expansion and scaling our technology with business growth.
- Mentor and grow technical leadership on the team while ensuring a high-quality culture is maintained.
- Make critical decisions regarding technology selection, architecture and design choices, the balance of feature and operational priorities, and setting high standards for quality and on-time delivery.
- Define and execute meaningful performance and operational SLAs that support our goals for great customer experiences.
- Generate, enhance, and promote ideas for useful new projects and technologies.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent from a fully-accredited college or university
- 10+ years of Java (or another Object-Oriented Programming language) experience
- Prior experience in a senior engineering people management role, with 5+ years managing multiple engineering teams and managers and 8+ years in engineering management overall.
- Familiarity with w/AWS and at-scale services
- Ability to add value to technical architecture decisions that affect your teams and teams in other parts of the company
- Solid understanding of relational databases (MySQL or Postgres)
- Experience managing teams operating across multiple offices
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and Agile development environment
- Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal contexts. Be able to articulate ideas clearly and concisely in various formats. Convey complex information effectively to diverse audiences, adapting styles appropriately to different situations and stakeholders. Able to give your team clear advice and guidance.
- Work and play well with others; SoFi is a collaborative environment. Be able to listen actively and respond thoughtfully in your collaborations in your team and with other teams and stakeholders.
Nice to have:
- Master or PhD in Computer Science or Engineering
- Financial services experience.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
