Working at Atlassian
Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity. Interviews and onboarding are conducted virtually, a part of being a distributed-first company.
The Atlassian Home and App team creates cohesive product experiences that centralize users' work across applications, driving cross-app adoption and reinforcing the Atlassian System of Work (ASOW). As a Senior Design Manager, you'll lead design across apps and features like Teams, Projects, Goals, and navigation components such as Universal Create and App Switcher, enhancing the user experience across Atlassian products. You'll guide a team of designers to deliver impactful, high-quality work that simplifies work sprawl and supports seamless, integrated user experiences across the Atlassian products.
Your Future Team
The Atlassian Home and App team collaborates with stakeholders across the Atlassian products to realize the value of Atlassian Home as a central, personalized user hub. As a Senior Design Manager, you'll guide a team of product designers, aligning them with stakeholders, and ensuring the team delivers high-quality, impactful design work that supports business objectives and elevates user experience.
What You'll Do

  • Manage and mentor a team of product designers, fostering a supportive environment that encourages craft excellence and career growth.
  • Oversee complex design initiatives spanning multiple workstreams, maintaining a high-quality standard and removing blockers to ensure timely delivery.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Product Management, and Research to deliver cohesive, end-to-end product experiences.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across the Atlassian product portfolio to drive alignment and support for design initiatives.
  • Define and deliver conceptual models and incremental design improvements for core components, focusing on consistent and valuable user experiences.
  • Champion design best practices, inclusive design, and pattern adoption, and drive continuous improvement of processes to support quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure high-quality, outcome-focused deliverables by effectively managing and prioritizing multiple workstreams.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the Atlassian Home ecosystem and how design decisions impact the broader Atlassian products.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and feedback, fostering a high-performing, balanced, and diverse design team.
  • Promote alignment and build trust across cross-functional teams, clearly communicating complex issues and fostering collaboration.
  • Lead your team through change and ambiguity, ensuring consistent delivery and adapting to evolving priorities.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: 12+ years in product design with 5+ years managing teams, ideally within a tech or SaaS environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in interaction design, prototyping, content design, or visual design, with a passion for delivering exceptional user experiences.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners, align stakeholders, and influence product strategy.
  • Clear, effective communicator with a strong ability to present and defend design decisions and direction.
  • A natural mentor with a talent for developing and retaining diverse, high-performing teams.
