Job Description

The experienced Senior Corporate Accountant will be assisting with oversight over the consolidated reporting requirements for Canada.  Responsibilities will include financial reporting analysis, forecasting/budgeting, transaction analysis, and legal entity reporting and maintenance. Strong communication skills and team focus will be necessary to develop relationships with the Regional Accounting teams and Asset Management. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monthly/Quarterly Reporting:

  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly portfolio board reporting
  • Assist with the preparation of various components of the quarterly financial reporting package to parent and related party reporting
  • Quarterly review and analysis of regional results prior to submission to parent
  • Preparation of regional fee and G&A reporting to parent

Budgeting and Forecasting

  • Work with regional accounting teams to consolidate results, model acquisitions/dispositions and other corporate adjustments
  • Provide guidance to Regional Accounting teams throughout the process
  • Prepare variance explanations and trend analysis to facilitate review of property budgets

Financial Reporting and audits (internal and external reporting):

  • Act as a liaison between external and internal auditors and the accounting team
  • Preparation of legal entity financial statements for tax compliance
  • Preparation of financial statements and notes for debt covenant reporting requirements
  • Prepare supporting documents required for external auditors

Other/Projects:

  • Fulfill ad-hoc financial analysis from Asset Management and/or Corporate Accounting
  • Preparation of ad hoc accounting memos and analysis
  • Assist with the analysis and implementation of new accounting pronouncements
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Property Accounting, Public Accounting, or Financial Analysis
  • Experience in analysis and review of financial statements and notes
  • Previous real estate experience is preferred
  • Strong accounting skills with in-depth knowledge of IFRS.  Working knowledge of using the IFRS handbook and other research tools

EDUCATION/DESIGNATIONS/LICENSES:

  • University Degree or College Diploma in an accounting related field of study
  • A professional accounting designation such as CPA is preferred

TECHNICAL SKILLS: 

  • Advanced level MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of accounting software (Yardi)
