What you'll be doing

As part of the Global Operational Risk Management (GORM) team in the 2nd Line of Defense, you'll help strengthen the quality and consistency of control testing completed by 1st Line Business (1B) teams. As a QA Specialist, you'll conduct independent reviews, validate testing outcomes, and identify opportunities to enhance testing quality and effectiveness. You'll provide clear guidance to business partners, support consistent application of internal standards, and contribute to a strong risk culture across the bank. Your work will help advance CIBC's risk management objectives and support compliance with internal policies and regulatory expectations.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Conduct quality assurance reviews - Independently assess the completeness, accuracy, and consistency of control testing documentation prepared by 1st Line Business (1B) teams.

  • Validate testing results - Perform sample-based quality assurance testing to confirm alignment with established methodologies, internal standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Identify issues and recommend improvements - Highlight gaps, deficiencies, and inconsistencies in testing approaches, and provide clear, constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.

  • Document findings and reporting - Prepare clear, well-supported quality assurance findings, root causes, and actionable recommendations for remediation.

  • Partner with stakeholders - Collaborate with business partners to clarify testing expectations, resolve issues, and promote consistent application of control testing standards.

  • Strengthen quality assurance practices - Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of quality assurance processes, methodologies, tools, and knowledge-sharing within GORM.

Who you are

  • You're an analytical problem-solver. You bring strong critical thinking skills and a high level of attention to detail to assess control testing results, identify trends, and uncover opportunities for improvement.

  • You have relevant experience. You have a bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field, along with a minimum of 4 years of experience in risk management, internal audit, or quality assurance, ideally within financial services. A professional certification such as Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), or Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) is an asset.

  • You know risk and control environments. You have a strong understanding of operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, financial risk, control frameworks, and control testing methodologies. Knowledge of CIBC's control framework and regulatory environment is an asset.

  • You're a collaborative communicator. You build effective relationships with stakeholders, communicate clearly in writing and verbally, and provide guidance that helps others improve the quality of their work.

  • You're organized and adaptable. You can manage multiple priorities, deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines, and adjust effectively in a changing environment.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and live our values of trust, teamwork, and accountability.
