This will be a remote role to start, with plans to transition to hybrid in-office 2x/week located in downtown Toronto.

By joining the Search Backend team, you will help diners find the perfect restaurant for their special occasion. On this team, you will collaborate closely with our product managers, data scientists, designers and delivery managers, while flexing your Java skills to partner with other engineering and infrastructure teams.
In this role, you will:- Build scalable architecture to process large amounts of data, and retrieve relevant restaurants for a given search in a timely and performant manner
- Improve our existing applications using your technical experience and creativity
- Implement new product features, working closely with product managers
- Partner closely with Data Scientists and Machine Learning engineers to implement new features
- Work together with frontend teams to drive product initiatives forward
- Monitor the health of our infrastructure and products
- Mentor and guide other team members in their journey to become world class engineers
- 5+ years of programming experience with Java (or similar modern object-oriented language)
- Strong working knowledge in multithreading and concurrent programming
- You have an empathetic approach and enjoy working with cross-functional partners of all career levels
- You believe communication is the cornerstone for building sustainable applications
- You build performant and scalable services and APIs
- Strong working knowledge of document databases, preferably Elastic Search
- You drive projects from technical planning all the way to production
- You value testing as a way to ensure reliable operation
- Strong background in performance monitoring and analysis
- You adopt emerging AI technologies like Copilot and ChatGPT to enhance your workflow, while also taking ownership of the results produced by these technologies and carefully checking them for accuracy.

There are a variety of factors that go into determining a salary range, including but not limited to external market benchmark data, geographic location, and years of experience sought/required. The range for this Canada based role is $120,000-$150,000 CAD.

This role is eligible to be considered for an annual bonus and equity grant.
