Job Description
The Investment & Fund Accounting (I&FA) team oversees of the accounting book of record for investments (Simcorp Dimensions). The team is responsible for the managing the investment accounting period end close, fund accounting activities and the accounting configuration setup within the investment ledger. In addition, the team is responsible for providing transaction booking and support within the investment ledger for new products, investment structures and system enhancements and upgrades to our internal business partners.
Reporting to the Manager, Group Accounting & Reporting, the person in this role will provide support for I&FA’s mandate and ensure investment transactions are accounted for correctly in SimCorp Dimensions to support internal and external reporting purposes. This person will also assist with the daily, monthly, and quarterly I&FA operations and various projects/initiatives as required. This person will work collaboratively within the I&FA team and other groups including Financial Policy & Reporting, Investment Operations, Treasury and Technology & Data.
Role-Specific Accountabilities:
- Assist with the period end close process for the investment ledger, including subledger/general ledger reconciliations, adjusting journal entries, exception handling of transactions
- Support external reporting requirements by preparing/reviewing monthly, quarterly and annual investment & financial schedules, reconciliations, and audit requests relating to financial statements and accounting controls
- Support daily fund accounting activities such as reconciliations of the Net Asset Value and cash flows and other month end controls
- Work with Financial Policy & Reporting and Investment Operations teams to ensure investment activities are recorded in the accounting book of record appropriately to meet downstream accounting and reporting requirements
- Support the department automation objectives and automate reports through Tableau, VBA, Python etc. As a subject matter expert provide guidance to other team members to help them automate their reports
- Proactively identify process inefficiencies, recommend, and execute process improvements while considering upstream/downstream impacts. Use technical tools (i.e.: Tableau, SQL, Python, macros, etc.) to analyze large data sets and streamline reporting processes
- Support testing for initiatives as required
Qualifications
- Undergraduate or advanced degree – Finance, Commerce, Accounting, Economics or another related discipline
- Professional designation (CPA, CFA, etc.) required
- 4-7 years relevant experience in investment accounting in the financial services industry
- Strong working knowledge of various investment products and an understanding of investment accounting standards, controls, and reporting practices
- Practical experience with accounts/portfolio structures and multi-asset portfolios (i.e., equities, fixed income, real estate, derivatives)
- Solid experience with investment portfolio accounting systems; SimCorp Dimensions considered an asset
- Proven track record of working on process automation projects and introducing efficiency to reporting and other processes Experience working with automation tools; Tableau will be added advantage
- Flexible, adaptable and able to prioritize to deliver results
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written
- Intellectually curious, with strong business judgment
- Solid interpersonal and organizational skills combined with the ability to readily adapt to rapidly changing investment environments
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and develop strong relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization
- Demonstrate good judgment, professionalism, and the ability to work in a high performing culture with time-sensitive deadlines
