About the team:

The Technology Planning and Cooperation Department promotes strategic innovation across all of Huawei Canada. Working with fellow experts, the focus is researching new and upcoming areas of technology as well as strategic planning to help achieve long term vision of Huawei. This department offers a unique opportunity to leverage both technical and business skills.

About the job:

  • Track and analyze frontier developments across AI/ML, foundation models, agentic AI, embodied intelligence, and next-generation computing architectures.

  • Produce high-quality technology foresight reports and strategic insights to guide long-term R&D investment and product directions.

  • Identify paradigm shifts in areas such as AI systems architecture, xPU heterogeneous computing, agent platforms, and intelligent devices.

  • Provide technical leadership in shaping AI system architectures, large-scale model infrastructure, and intelligent agent platforms.

  • Assess technology maturity and define strategic technology roadmaps.

  • Collaborate with internal research teams, product groups, and system architects to translate strategic insights into concrete technology initiatives.

  • Build strategic collaborations with leading universities, research institutions, and industry partners.

  • Identify and initiate joint research programs in areas such as AI agents and autonomous systems, embodied intelligence and robotics, distributed AI infrastructure and heterogeneous computing (GPU/NPU/xPU).

About the ideal candidate:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, Systems Engineering, or related fields, with 5+ years of experience in AI/ML research, AI systems architecture, or advanced technology strategy.

  • Proven ability to translate cutting-edge research into strategic technology insights.

  • Strong understanding of several of the following domains:

    o   Foundation models / large language models

    o   Agentic AI systems and autonomous agents

    o   Embodied intelligence and robotics

    o   AI systems and distributed training/inference

    o   Heterogeneous computing architectures (GPU/NPU/xPU)

    o   Next-generation AI infrastructure and platforms

  • Ability to identify long-term technology trends and paradigm shifts.

  • Strong analytical capability for synthesizing academic research and industry developments.

  • Comfortable working across research, engineering, and business organizations.

  • Ability to influence technical direction and strategic decisions.

  • Deep curiosity about emerging technologies and a passion for exploring frontier AI technologies and shaping the future of intelligent systems.
