What you'll be doing

The AI and Advanced Modeling team develops innovative, scalable solutions that help deliver more personalized client experiences and stronger business decisions. As a Senior AI Data Scientist, you'll design, build, deploy, and optimize advanced machine learning and agentic artificial intelligence solutions that support personalization, decisioning, and operational efficiency. You'll partner closely with business leaders, data engineering teams, model validation partners, and enterprise artificial intelligence stakeholders to translate complex business challenges into practical, high-impact solutions. You'll help strengthen ModelOps practices by supporting model lifecycle management, monitoring, retraining, documentation, and performance tracking. You'll also contribute to responsible artificial intelligence, governance, and validation readiness while helping integrate data and artificial intelligence capabilities across on-premises and cloud environments. In this hands-on role, you'll bring deep technical expertise, sound judgment, and curiosity to a fast-moving agile environment aligned with the CIBC way of working.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Collaboration - Build strong working relationships across data science, engineering, model validation, governance, and business teams to deliver well-governed, high-impact AI solutions.

  • Technical leadership - Serve as a senior hands-on contributor in machine learning and agentic artificial intelligence development, with a strong focus on Databricks and cloud environments.

  • ModelOps and governance - Embed best practices for model lifecycle management, monitoring, validation readiness, documentation, and production reliability into day-to-day delivery.

  • Business consulting - Assess business challenges, identify high-value analytical opportunities, and deliver practical recommendations that create measurable business value.

  • Continuous improvement - Evaluate emerging artificial intelligence techniques, tools, and practices, and apply them responsibly to improve outcomes and operational excellence.

  • Team contribution - Share knowledge, support peers, and contribute to an inclusive, high-performing team culture aligned with the CIBC way of working.

Who you are

  • You're an experienced artificial intelligence practitioner. You bring 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in data science, machine learning, or AI solution development using Python, PySpark, and related open-source tools.

  • You're technically strong. You have experience building, training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning models using tools such as scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, and PySpark machine learning libraries, with practical experience in Databricks and cloud environments.

  • You're skilled in enterprise delivery. You understand ModelOps and MLOps practices, including experiment tracking, version control, deployment, monitoring, retraining, and lifecycle governance, and you can produce clear, audit-ready documentation.

  • You're a thoughtful problem solver. You work with large, complex datasets, assess data quality and suitability, and translate technical methodologies, risks, and recommendations clearly for both technical and non-technical partners.

  • You're curious and adaptable. You stay current on developments in machine learning, large language models, and agentic artificial intelligence, and you apply innovation responsibly in a regulated environment.

  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work, and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
