Own monthly and quarterly close activities for captive insurance clients, including journal entries, reconciliations, premium and loss accounting, intercompany activity, and financial statements. Serve as a client finance contact, support audits and regulatory filings, document processes, and partner with technology teams to automate accounting workflows. The role requires insurance accounting expertise, strong communication, client presence, and a systems-oriented approach.
About Luzern Risk
Luzern Risk is transforming risk into a strategic asset. We are building a platform to revolutionize the captive management industry, providing our clients with the technology and expertise to take control of their risk financing. We are a team of passionate, driven individuals excited to solve hard problems, build an industrydefining company, and create a best-in-class experience for our clients.
Our Senior Accountant will be a foundational hire on our accounting team, executing the day-to-day work that powers our clients’ captive insurance financials. You will own the close cadence for a book of captive
participants, work directly with clients on questions and requests, and partner with our technology team to
turn manual processes into automated workflows.
The ideal candidate has hands-on insurance accounting experience, is motivated to develop deep captive expertise quickly, and is energized by the chance to build the accounting function from the ground up at a startup. You operate with urgency, ask sharp questions, and bring a builder’s mindset to every process you touch.
Key Responsibilities
- Core accounting execution: Own monthly and quarterly close activities for a book of captive participants, including journal entries, reconciliations, premium and loss accounting, intercompany activity, and financial statement preparation.
- Client interaction: Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for client finance teams. Field questions, walk clients through their financials, and follow through on requests without needing to be chased.
- Systemization and technology adoption: Partner with the technology team to codify accounting workflows into the Luzern Risk platform. Identify repetitive manual work, propose automations, and adopt new tools quickly. Your hands-on experience shapes what we build next.
- Process documentation: Build and maintain clear documentation for the accounting processes you run. Make your work repeatable so the team can scale.
- Regulatory and compliance support: Support annual audits, regulatory filings, and domicile-specific reporting requirements for our captive clients.
Successful candidates will demonstrate
- Curiosity: A yearning to deeply understand the captive insurance industry, our clients, and our business. You ask questions, take notes, and come back the next day sharper than the day before.
- Urgency: You drive the work in front of you to closure and do not let items sit.
- Ownership: When something lands on your plate, it gets done. You drive your work to completion without needing to be managed step by step.
- Bias for action: You spot problems and opportunities and move on them, rather than waiting to be told.
- Systems thinking: You see opportunities to standardize and automate the work you do. You are eager to partner with engineers and product to make the platform better.
- Client presence: You are comfortable on a call with a client controller or CFO, can explain accounting matters clearly, and represent Luzern Risk well.
- Rigor: You take quality seriously. You check your work, reconcile what should reconcile, and surface problems early rather than hiding them.
Requirements

- Comfort working directly with clients and presenting financial information
- Demonstrated interest in financial systems, automation, and technology adoption
