JOB DESCRIPTION
As an Order Selector, you will handle an average of 1,500 cases per shift, with each case weighing an average of 30 pounds - but up to 72 pounds. You will also move a lot - walking, standing, stretching, and bending - on average you will walk over 10 kilometers in a single shift. It is very repetitive & physically demanding work, so the ideal person for the job is very self-motivated and likes to continually challenge themselves. The hours appeal to those who are night owls - shifts typically start in the afternoon and end in the early morning.
Shift starts are between 5:00pm and 5:30pm, with 4 shifts per week occurring from Sunday to Friday. Each shift is an average of 10 hours but can be up to 12 on busy nights with overtime as required. Due to the nature of business, you will be required to work on most stat holidays with additional stat pay or time in lieu of (per ESA legislation).
Role Responsibilities:
- Maintains an acceptable level of production and accuracy while selecting foodservice orders.
- Loads pallets to ensure safe delivery of product to customers.
- Adheres to all Preferred Work Methods and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Carries out duties in a safe manner as instructed through safety training.
- Participate in various meetings/groups (shift, departmental, company and safety).
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Warehouse Manager and Supervisors.
Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements:
- Physically capable of heavy lifting and high endurance as there is constant standing, bending stretching, lifting, twisting and very fast-paced work.
- Ability to work in cold (freezer) temperature environments for extended periods.
- High volume warehouse experience using a pallet jack and/or forklift is beneficial.
- Medium to high level of physical exertion is required; repetitive, continuous lifting up to 70 pounds.
- Safety conscious with a teamwork attitude
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Must be 18+ years of age
- English fluency
