As a Security & Backend Engineer, you will own core pieces of our Scala + Python backend while raising the bar on how we protect data, systems, and customers. You will design and build backend services, shape secure-by-default patterns, and lead practical security work across authentication, authorization, data protection, and infrastructure. This is a role for someone who enjoys hard backend problems and has a meaningful security background, but does not want a purely specialized security seat.
What You’ll DoDesign and ship reliable, scalable services with senior engineers
Work on data pipelines from ingestion to enrichment to delivery
Build and operate backend services and APIs that power the core product
Embed secure-by-default patterns in services, data flows, and infrastructure
Identify risks early in product design and propose pragmatic solutions
Guide the engineering team toward secure defaults in code, infrastructure, and workflows
Harden cloud environments, networks, and services to reduce the attack surface
Work with ML and data teams on secure handling of models and data
Partner with customers to ensure their integrations with our platform are safe and seamless
5+ years building and operating production backend systems
Owned security-sensitive systems (auth, permissions, secrets, data access controls)
Strong skills in Python or Scala, ideally both over time
Applied secure practices across data, code, and infrastructure
Comfortable with modern cloud deployments and IaC
Hands-on with security reviews, threat modeling, and hardening
Enjoy balancing new feature delivery with long-term hardening and scale
