Position Overview
  • Speer Technologies is looking for a Sales Engineer who can combine business development skills with strong technical communication.
  • This role is responsible for generating new business opportunities, leading early discovery conversations, understanding client business and technical requirements, and helping position Speer as a knowledgeable technology partner.
  • You do not need to be a software engineer, but you should be technically curious, comfortable discussing software and technology with decision makers, and able to translate client challenges into potential solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Generate new business opportunities through outbound outreach, inbound leads, referrals, events, partnerships, and targeted account development.
  • Build relationships with CTOs, CIOs, CEOs, founders, engineering leaders, product leaders, IT directors, and other decision makers.
  • Conduct discovery conversations to understand business objectives, technical environments, existing systems, requirements, timelines, and budgets.
  • Clearly communicate Speer's capabilities across custom software, web and mobile applications, cloud infrastructure, integrations, AI, product development, and digital transformation.
  • Act as an early technical resource during the sales process and help position Speer as a credible subject matter expert.
  • Work with engineering, product, design, and leadership teams to develop solutions for prospective clients.
  • Translate discovery conversations into project requirements, proposals, statements of work, presentations, pricing, and next steps.
  • Participate in client presentations and technical discussions.
  • Build strategic partnerships and identify opportunities through conferences, networking events, accelerators, incubators, universities, and technology communities.
  • Use tools such as LinkedIn, Clay, Apollo, HubSpot, and other sales platforms to source and manage opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records and opportunity tracking.
  • Support relevant RFP and proposal opportunities.
  • Continuously build knowledge of Speer's technologies, case studies, services, and target markets.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience selling software development, SaaS, cloud, IT consulting, digital transformation, AI, or technology services.
  • Experience communicating with technical and executive stakeholders.
  • Ability to understand software requirements and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with concepts such as APIs, databases, cloud infrastructure, integrations, web applications, and mobile applications.
  • Experience with technical discovery, requirements gathering, proposals, or statements of work.
  • Experience with outbound prospecting and developing new business opportunities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with HubSpot, LinkedIn Sales Navigator, Clay, Apollo, or similar tools.
  • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technologies and industries.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.

First 90 Days
  • Develop a strong understanding of Speer's services, technologies, case studies, and ideal customer profiles.
  • Shadow engineering, product, and leadership teams during technical and sales conversations.
  • Build targeted prospect lists and begin developing qualified opportunities.
  • Conduct discovery conversations and demonstrate an ability to identify technical and business requirements.
  • Contribute to proposals, statements of work, presentations, and pricing discussions.
  • Independently qualify opportunities before involving senior technical resources.
  • Convert at least one qualified opportunity of any deal size.
  • Demonstrate tangible progress across partnerships, referrals, events, or strategic accounts.
Metrics for Success

Success will be evaluated based on:

  • Qualified opportunities generated.
  • Discovery meetings completed.
  • Conversion from discovery to proposal.
  • Conversion from proposal to closed engagement.
  • Pipeline value and revenue generated.
  • Quality of technical qualification.
  • Ability to communicate Speer's technical capabilities.
  • Relationships developed with senior decision makers.

Compensation Package

Base Salary: $50,000-$150,000 + commission

Base compensation will vary based on technical expertise, sales experience, industry knowledge, and ability to independently manage technical sales conversations.

Commission Structure

  • $10K → 10%
  • $10K-$50K → 8%
  • $50K-$100K → 6%
  • $100K-$500K → 5%
  • $500K-$2M → 4%
  • Enterprise / Strategic Deals ($2M+) → 3%

Example Payouts

  • $10K deal → $1,000
  • $50K deal → $4,000
  • $100K deal → $6,000
  • $500K deal → $25,000
  • $2M deal → $80,000
