As the Risk Manager at Sky Zone, you will be responsible for overseeing claims handling, ensuring their timely resolution, and minimizing company exposure in coordination with third-party administrators, counsel, and insurance carriers throughout the claims cycle. This role involves managing claims across various types, including general liability and bodily injury, property, crime, cyber, work comp, and employment practices You will also be responsible for correlating, assessing, and mitigating risks and applying lessons learned into the operational policies, processes, and risk mitigation controls within the park. The position requires an individual with strong leadership, data analysis, and strategic thinking abilities, with an emphasis on improving overall risk management processes and enhancing risk defense practices. Your work will directly impact the safety culture and the overall success of the business. 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Incident Triage and Claims Management 

  • Oversee the handling of claims within the Company’s retention, ensuring thorough incident triage and effective resolution of claims related to bodily injury, accidents or property damage, including domestic and international claims 

  • Manage claims related to property, cyber, crime, work comp, and employment practices, ensuring effective claims resolution. 

  • Ensure timely, aggressive, and effective resolution of injury incidents to minimize loss and exposure. Collaborate with Third-Party Administrators (TPAs) to ensure efficient triage handling. 

  • Develop and implement strategies to streamline the claims process, ensure alignment with best practices and regulatory requirements, reduce costs, and improve guest satisfaction. 

  • Address escalated customer inquiries and complaints related to incidents, ensuring high-quality customer service and issue resolution. 

 

Risk Identification & Assessment: 

  • Identify and assess potential risks in operations, including customer safety, employee safety, equipment, facilities, and legal compliance. 

  • Perform regular safety audits and inspections to ensure that the park adheres to safety protocols and legal standards. 

 

Risk Management and Insurance 

  • Assist with the insurance placement, including applications and coordinating support for securing necessary coverage. 

  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary management team to develop company policies and strategies for reducing risk and improving controls. 

  • Assist with investigations within the park, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions and tracking completion. 

  • Develop and execute risk assessments for all park activities, events, and new initiatives. 

  • Manage Certificates of Insurance (COI) and adding new locations to insurance programs  

 

Emergency Preparedness: 

  • Create and maintain emergency response plans for a variety of situations (e.g., injuries, natural disasters, crime events). 

  • Assist with regular drills for staff and ensure emergency procedures are understood and followed. 

  • Partner with Safety to oversee first-aid, AED/ CPR, and emergency medical preparedness in the park. 

 

Data Analysis & Reporting: 

  • Regularly utilize the RMIS platform to monitor, report, and analyze claims data. Leverage analytics to identify trends and recommend corrective actions. 

  • Provide data-driven insights and actionable recommendations to improve risk defense practices, claims trends, risk factors, and propose mitigation strategies to minimize claims costs. This includes advising on enhancements to operational changes based on claims findings and safety measures. 

  • Prepare regular risk management reports for senior management, highlighting trends, areas of opportunity, and suggesting corrective actions based on KPI metrics 

  • Maintain records of risk management activities and ensure accurate documentation for auditing purposes. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • At least 5 years of experience in risk management, safety, or a similar role, preferably in an entertainment or recreational setting. 

  • Experience in managing claims management programs, risk assessments, and compliance with regulations. 

 

SKILLS: 

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and risk management principles. 

  • Excellent communication skills to interact with staff, customers, and management. 

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 

  • Ability to investigate incidents and create detailed reports. 

  • Ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and risk management software. 

 

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Safety Management, Business Administration, or a related field.   

Preferred certifications include:

  • Risk Management Certification (e.g., CRM – Certified Risk Manager). Advanced certifications such as Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Associate in Claims (AIC), or equivalent are a plus 

  • OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Certification. 

  • CPR/First Aid Certification. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • This position requires the ability to remain stationery, move around, lift, etc., with or without reasonable accommodation. 

Compensation range is $90-$110k + bonus based on qualifications, experience, and performance. Full-time employees at Sky Zone enjoy a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision coverage along with a 401k plan with company matching. Eligibility for 401k is based on age and tenure requirements.
