Job Description:

Are you passionate about pushing the boundaries of technology and solving real-world problems? IMAX is seeking a talented R&D Technologist to join our dynamic team. As a key member of our Research and Development department, you will leverage your expertise in optical engineering, photonics, or engineering physics to investigate and address reliability issues in our cutting-edge projection systems. This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams and contribute to groundbreaking advancements in cinema technology. This is a 12 months contract role.

What You'll Do

  • Investigate root cause analysis on field failures and report results to senior stakeholders.

  • Design and carry out experiments to prove/disprove theories related to the source of field failures.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to understand the variety of contamination sources that could be present in a theater booth environment.

  • Develop analytical tools and insights on data from deployed systems.

  • Measure component and system level performance against design metrics.

  • Investigate new technologies related to IMAX projection systems.

  • Assume a supporting role in defining new R&D projects.

  • Author technical documentation and present results to management periodically.

  • Author technical documentation used as inputs for the install, manufacturing and service teams’ manuals and instructions periodically.

  • Travel occasionally on site for troubleshooting, diagnostics and field testing.

What You'll Need

  • 5+ years of experience in a real-world R&D, product development or quality assurance environment.

  • Strong technical background with excellent analytical skills and the ability to identify root cause failures in manufactured products used in clean environments.

  • Excellent “hands-on” laboratory skills and capability of using a wide variety of equipment.

  • Strong attention to detail in conducting experiments and recording data

  • Good breadth of knowledge including mechanical, thermal, and electrical engineering.

  • Good understanding of quality management processes.

  • Capability to work effectively within a diverse team of multidisciplinary engineers

  • Ability to document findings clearly, write reports, and present results to stakeholders.

  • Experience with scientific analysis programming environments (ie, matlab and python) is a plus

  • Understanding of colour science and display calibration is a plus.

  • A PEng designation is a plus.
