Job Description:

About the Role
We are looking for a Quantitative Analyst to join the Stochastic Analytics Group (SAG).  The position reports to Director, Global Stochastic Analysis, in the Canadian Asset Liability Management department.  This team is a center of excellence and has deep technical expertise for economic scenario generator methodologies and financial modeling with a strong culture of client focus. You must be technically strong and be able to apply your financial, actuarial knowledge and stochastic modeling skills effectively and creatively. Strong time management and communication skills are essential due to tight regulatory and internal business requirements, control structure and production processes.

What you’ll be doing
•    Support monthly and quarterly financial reporting process ensuring that it is carried out in an efficient and controlled manner with an appropriate level of oversight, control, and reporting.
•    Maintain ESG methodologies and guidelines documents and ensure alignment with relevant Sun Life and external requirements.
•    Analyze financial results that are calculated using the ESG, prepare the necessary reports and communicate and discuss issues with business users to ensure efficient resolution of any concerns.
•    Support centralized research, development, and production of real world and/or risk neutral stochastic scenarios for all business groups.
•    Assist in enhancing the framework and processes for IFRS 17 stochastic scenario generation to support financial risk modelling.
 

What you’ll need to succeed

•    University degree in mathematics, statistics, financial engineering, computer science or related discipline. 

•    A master’s degree or higher in a quantitative field, or completion of at least four exams administered by the Society of Actuaries (or an equivalent professional organization), is preferred.

•    Demonstrated expertise with risk measures (value at risk, capital at risk, earning at risk), calibration and simulation of financial variables (stochastic modeling, Monte Carlo simulation), and basic statistical analysis.

•    Knowledge and experience with programming in Matlab, Python, and VBA.

•    Ability to work independently and in cross-functional team settings.

•    Critical thinking and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

•    Ability to work under tight deadlines and with multiple priorities. 

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted.  It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.  In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.  Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
