Ensures the quality of technology-delivered products by collaborating with application, middleware, infrastructure, and data teams throughout the development lifecycle. Designs and executes test plans to validate system functionality, performance, and integration, while maintaining high standards of documentation and defect management.

Key Responsibilities

Test Planning & Execution

  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain test plans for infrastructure, middleware, data, and applications.
  • Execute and verify test cases, reporting results and defects to stakeholders.
  • Record and document test outcomes, including issues, anomalies, and deviations from expected results.
  • Ensure accuracy, consistency, and traceability of test results, following BMO’s SDLC processes.
  • Maintain historical test records and a defect repository.

Quality Assurance Leadership

  • Lead and implement comprehensive test strategies for core initiatives.
  • Assess and refine requirements for testability.
  • Ensure systems and software are functionally appropriate, technically sound, and well integrated.
  • Confirm development teams’ unit testing practices are in place before integration testing.
  • Drive expansion of test automation capabilities and support framework design and standards.

Strategic & Analytical Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent analysis to resolve strategic issues.
  • Break down complex problems and analyze data to generate insights and recommendations.
  • Monitor performance, identify concerns, and ensure quality metrics are used to guide delivery.
  • Recommend improvements to technological processes to enhance overall efficiency.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Support strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate as an active stakeholder in enterprise-wide programs and projects.
  • Oversee multiple test projects simultaneously and provide scheduling support to operations.
  • Contribute to a seamless customer experience by supporting continuous improvement efforts.

Continuous Improvement & Knowledge Sharing

  • Identify improvement opportunities to strengthen QA capabilities.
  • Mentor team members, share technical expertise, and contribute to communities of practice.
  • Stay current with industry and business trends through professional associations and self-learning.

Production Support

  • Provide immediate response and support for production program issues.
  • Diagnose and address problems within established guidelines.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Exercise sound judgement in solving problems across a range of complex tasks.
  • Work independently and manage unique or ambiguous situations.
  • Perform broader accountabilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • 2–4 years of experience in IT or business environments and/or a degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Math, or Business.
  • Technical proficiency gained through formal education and/or practical experience.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of SDLC, testing methodologies, metrics, automation frameworks, and documentation standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving abilities.
  • Ability to analyze data and leverage testing metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Experience with mainframe tools (TSO/ISPF), JCL, Rexx, DB2, and CICS.
  • Experience with HP ALM, ServiceNow, Jira.

Domain Knowledge

  • Understanding of BMO applications and infrastructure components.
  • Banking and Everyday Banking products experience preferred.

Soft Skills

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and translate technical concepts into clear, understandable terms.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, analytical thinking, influence, and data‑driven decision‑making skills.

Salary:

$61,600.00 - $113,900.00

Pay Type:

Salaried

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
