The Role
We are seeking a QA Automation Engineer to join the Central Technology Web Development team in support of Morningstar's Corporate Marketing. This position will be part of an engineering team focused on enhancing and updating Morningstar's web-based product suites.
This is a hybrid position (3 days in-office) based in Toronto.
Job Responsibilities

  • Create and test web experiences that are consistent across all browsers and operating systems.
  • Collaborate with the product and development teams throughout the lifecycle. Contribute to the analysis, design, development, and testing phases.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning and backlog grooming, to ensure clarity in requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Create and execute test cases, including manual and automated scripts, for regression, integration, and functional testing on newly designed or modified applications/systems.
  • Perform API testing to validate functionality and reliability using tools such as Postman or custom scripts.
  • Document and clearly articulate defects, both verbally and in writing, ensuring timely problem resolution.
  • Monitor and update defect reports, ensuring accurate tracking and follow-up.
  • Independently test assigned features or user stories, ensuring they meet acceptance criteria and quality standards.
  • Create test plans and strategies for assigned features or projects, considering potential risks and mitigation strategies.
  • Stay current with modern testing frameworks like Playwright or Cypress to enhance automation efforts.
  • Understand and leverage emerging technologies.


Qualifications

  • A team player who is friendly, humble, and honest, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • 3+ years of experience in software testing, including both manual and automation testing.
  • Experience with modern testing frameworks such as Playwright or Cypress.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript or TypeScript for writing basic test scripts.
  • Understanding of API testing methodologies and tools such as Postman.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and the ability to actively participate in team ceremonies.
  • Basic understanding of Content Management Systems (CMS); experience with Contentstack is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to independently own assigned features or user stories and drive them to completion.
  • Basic understanding of automation frameworks with the ability to adapt to existing structures.
  • Excellent self-study skills.
