Our challenge

We are seeking a passionate and highly skilled Lead Python Data Engineer to spearhead the development and maintenance of our cutting-edge data infrastructure. As a leader in our data team, candidate will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines that empower our organization with insightful and actionable data. Additional Information 

The base salary for this position will vary based on geography and other factors.  In accordance with law, the base salary for this role if filled within Mississauga, ON is CAD $120k - CAD $125k/year & benefits (see below).

The Role

Responsibilities:

  • Create large-scale data processing pipelines to help developers build and train novel machine learning algorithms.
  • Participate in code reviews, ensure code quality and identify areas for improvement to implement practical solutions.
  • Debugging codes when required and troubleshooting any Python-related queries.
  • Keep up to date with emerging trends and technologies in Python development.

Requirements:

  • Experience level 7+ years
  • Core Python developer, flask, Django, SQLalchamy/SQL, memory model.
  • Design, architect, and implement robust and scalable data pipelines using Python and related technologies (Airflow, PySpark, PyFlink are a plus). 
  • Champion best practices for data engineering, code quality, testing, and deployment.
  • Mentor and guide a team of talented data engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
  • Collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Data Analysts, and business stakeholders to translate complex business requirements into efficient data solutions.  
  • Continuously research and implement new technologies and best practices to improve the efficiency and scalability of our data platform.
  • Take ownership of the deployment and monitoring of data pipelines and related infrastructure on cloud platforms such as Openshift, ECS, or Kubernetes. 

Preferred, but not required:

  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
  • Contributions to open-source projects or active participation in the data engineering community.
  • Banking/ Financial experience is preferred
