Job Description

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager is responsible for leading manufacturing operations to achieve excellence in safety, quality, and cost efficiency. This role provides strategic leadership and coaching to supervisors, ensuring alignment with health, safety, environmental, and quality standards while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and coaching to Supervisors to meet all safety, environmental, quality, cost and service goals and objectives.
  • Partner with the HSE Specialist to ensure that the production teams are engaged in our HSE programs, hazards are identified and resolved, and to develop the supervisors to be leaders of safety for their teams.
  • Partner with Quality Assurance to ensure that finished product meets all customer requirements through continuous improvement and utilization of the plant quality management system.
  • Partner with the Maintenance Manager to ensure equipment reliability at optimal efficiency and cost.
  • Provide leadership and coaching to Shipping Supervisor to meet all safety, environmental cost, service goals and objectives.
  • Assure that the manufacturing schedule is optimized and makes adjustments as necessary to provide required levels of service to our customers in the most cost effective manner.
  • Provide the leadership to maintain a highly engaged workforce.  Partner with HR in areas of employee skill development, performance management, employee involvement, organizational change, and staffing.
  • Provide leadership to drive continuous improvement through the application of Lean Manufacturing concepts such as Kaizen events working directly with the production and maintenance teams.
  • Communicate with Union officials effectively.  Participate in grievance procedure as required. Foster a productive labor relations climate.
  • Ensure employee training (quality, safety, process, etc.) is effective and completed.
  • Mentor immediate direct reports and establish an effective team that is accountable and capable of achieving all performance goals.
  • Ensure plant housekeeping meets company standards and implement and maintain a 5S program to sustain improvements.
  • Responsible for implementing safety and environmental initiatives in partnership with the plant leadership team.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in a technical field is preferred
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of leadership experience within a manufacturing environment
  • Strong planning, analytical and troubleshooting skills in an industrial environment
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement initiatives including Lean Manufacturing
  • Proven track record of operational enhancement and improvements through employee engagement
  • Experience in leading and coaching supervisors, engineers and staff
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt certification a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills      
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Excellent communication (written, verbal, and presentation) skills
  • Demonstrated team building talent and hands-on problem-solving skills
  • Ability to achieve results individually and as a member of a team
