What You Will Do

The Product Test and Compliance Engineer will focus on assuring and improving the compliance of current and new products and product enhancements to national and international product compliance standards and regulations. This position requires full office attendance in Trimble’s Richmond Hill office in Richmond Hill, Ontario.

 

The specific product compliance and testing activities include:

  • EMC, LVD, and safety reviews of designs and prototype construction, including circuit board layouts, schematics, mechanical drawings, and customer documentation, guiding to design teams. 

  • Review product compliance requirements as set by the product management team and provide feedback and suggested changes if required.

  • Contracting testing labs to perform the required product testing, which includes, but is not limited to:

    • Obtaining quotes from various labs and evaluating them.

    • Preparing the product(s) for testing, including setup, support equipment, pass/fail criteria, and test procedures when applicable.

    • Evaluating the results and reviewing test reports.

  • Reviewing new product compliance regulations to determine their impact on new and existing product lines.

  • Ensure product compliance with worldwide environmental regulations, including evaluating and maintaining product environmental compliance records such as ROHS, WEEE, REACH, TSCA POPs, PFAS, WEEE Conflict Minerals, China RoHS, California Proposition 65, Sustainability programs, Battery and Packaging directives.

  • Perform other internal product tests and evaluations, including DVT (Design Verification Tests)

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing and coordinating the activities required to achieve and maintain regulatory compliance across multiple product lines. 

The role involves working with multiple functional groups within Trimble Applanix, and Trimble in general, to support new product design, new product introduction, and assisting in some engineering tests as needed.
 

This Product Compliance Engineer is expected to become the technical liaison for compliance-related tasks and issues within Trimble Applanix.

As such, this Product Compliance Engineer will be responsible for communicating regularly with other Trimble “Regulatory Compliance and test” groups, as well as external testing compliance labs and organizations as needed. 

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline, preferred EE or Physics.

  • At least 5 years of experience working in product compliance roles.

  • Expertise with the European Union’s EMC Directive and the EN 61326-1 standard.

  • Familiarity with the European Union’s Low Voltage Directive and the EN61010-1 standard, as well as the U.S. (UL-61010-1) and Canada (CSA C22.2#61010-1) variants.

  • Familiarity with the European Union’s Restrictions on Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Directive, and other environmental and chemical compliance regulations in general.

  • Familiarity with test and measurement products, including digital multimeters and power supplies.

  • Experience with product compliance reviews of prototype products, including reviews of schematics, drawings, and other technical documents.

  • Experience testing products for EMC.

  • Excellent communications, spoken and written; proficient in describing compliance requirements with technical and non-technical staff; comfortable speaking to groups.
