How You Will Contribute:

This position resides near Ciena’s Ottawa Innovation location and requires close working relationships with internal engineering, test, and design communities to champion all quality aspects of Ciena hardware.

The PQE is responsible for tracking and identifying causes of customer impacting issues, found either internally or externally, and for driving cross functional teams within the CM to understand how they occurred, and implement corrective actions.

This role will act as a subject matter expert within the Ciena Global Quality Team to provide support directly with the CM to help liaison cross functional teams (NPI, Design, Test, and Process Engineering) in collaboration to deliver the highest quality products in a timely and cost-effective manner. 

  • Work directly with Contract Manufacturers, Suppliers, and Design to support customer needs
  • Establish and lead cross-functional collaborative teams to address customer quality concerns
  • Monitor and report on quality metrics to track overall performance
  • Identify high value opportunities and drive corrective actions
  • Challenge teams to implement corrective actions that improve customer satisfaction (priority on Poka-Yoke)
  • Recommend and implement changes to Ciena’s quality assurance procedures
  • Maximize the use of established test processes and methodologies to drive initiatives and projects for the achievement of the Quality team’s objectives.
  • Participate in day-to-day Quality activities, supporting the Global Customer base.
  • Conduct supplier audits to ensure best practices and enforce supplier accountability per TL9000 standards.
  • Take on other duties, and special projects as needed.

The Must Haves:

  • Experience driving quality improvement plans with manufacturers and suppliers. 
  • Detail oriented, reliable and work in a team environment and alone with minimal direction and supervision.
  • Familiar with optical fiber processes and/or electrical PCB assembly is a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel – multitasking a must.
  • Comfortable presenting to internal/external executive stakeholders & holding teams accountable. 
  • Experience with finding the root cause of defects in a complex platform environment.
  • Strong desire for a career path in Quality engineering.
  • Ability to perform statistical analysis and perform analytical practices with data.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Power BI)
  • Strong communication skills - verbal and written.

  • Familiar with Telecom equipment and overall industry technology is a plus.
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of proven quality experience

Pay Range: $94,000 - $150, 200 CAD

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
