The Opportunity

Univeris is in the midst of an exciting transformation of our Advisor and Enterprise Wealth Management Platforms, focused on expanding the features we offer to our current market and the markets we serve with our platform.  Our Professional Services team enables our clients to advance our roadmap by developing and implementing solutions to address their business objectives. Univeris needs a dynamic Product Owner, Services to help define, sell and execute service-based development projects to bring our clients new and enhanced product solutions and capabilities. The role has significant interactions outside the local team, including working with customers, internal stakeholders, software engineers and architects.

The Role

    The Product Owner, Services is embedded in a cross-functional Product Team and fulfills the primary accountabilities outlined below for client-sponsored projects. 

    • Defining and communicating the requirements and business value in collaboration with the client, solution engineering and other stakeholders; and documenting those requirements in a Product Requirements Document and Statement of Work. The Product Owner, Services plays an important role in the sale and scoping of service-based engagements.
    • Maintaining and prioritizing a sufficient backlog of ready-to-work backlog items to facilitate Sprint Planning 
    • Accepting User Stories as being completed based on their established acceptance criteria and Definition of Done. In so doing, the Product Owner also fulfills a critical quality assurance function, focusing primarily on fitness for use.
    • The Product Owner fulfills the following responsibilities for all assigned Products and Projects

      • Proactively participate in release and product increment planning
      • Contributing to the Product Roadmap to realize the goals of the Product Vision and Strategy.
      • Collaborating with Product Team members in writing stories, taking accountability for having a backlog of ready stories and prioritizing them for Sprint Planning
      • Collaborating with Scrum Masters to practice agility and capitalize on Scrum to maximize the product value and ensure continuous improvement. 
      • Ensuring that User Stories are “ready” for development to start work according to an established "Definition of Ready" in collaboration with the Product Team
      • Ensuring each User Story has the necessary Acceptance Criteria defined in collaboration with the Product Team
      • Coordinating dependencies and activities with other Product Owners as necessary
      • Sharing market and client information and business insights with the Product Team to give context to the requirements to help ensure that the right problems are being solved by the team
      • Continuously developing relevant product domain expertise and sharing that expertise with the Product Team
      • Tracking progress towards Product Increment and Release objectives and communicating to the organization
      • Prioritizing customer-reported deficiencies, defects and enhancements as part of the Product Backlog.
      • Leading Program Increment (PI) planning activities for the Product Team 
      • Participating in all Agile ceremonies with the Product Team, including daily standups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos and retrospectives.
      • Presenting the summary of work for the Product Team in Sprint Reviews and inviting appropriate stakeholders to give feedback.
      • Understanding the Product Vision and Product Strategy and articulating it to the Product Team
      • Reviewing and contributing to the user and technical guides to ensure that they are updated and completed to coincide with Release milestones, and ensures that all product documentation follows corporate standards and practices
      • Preparing product release documentation
      • Preparation of product collateral to ensure relevance and accuracy
      • Representing the voice of the customer within the Product Team to ensure that solutions are built to deliver value to the customer
      • Continuously building and maintaining productive relationships with customers

The Successful Candidate

    Your Formal Qualifications
    • A minimum of 2 years of industry experience as a Product Owner in an Agile software development environment
    • Demonstrable understanding of Agile product management principles with Scrum
    • Working knowledge of the Atlassian suite (Jira & Confluence) or similar tools
    • CSPO certification or equivalent work experience
    • Working knowledge of SQL
    • Working knowledge of APIs
    • Working knowledge and experience using AI tools, including ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini/Figma Make to create Product Artifacts
    • A business or technical degree
    • Professional proficiency in English and Spanish

      • Organization - being very consistent and structured in managing information, documentation, agile boards and other artifacts produced

        • Experience working as an agile Product Owner in a professional services organization, delivering software development solutions for clients
        • Experience working in WealthTech, FinTech or Enterprise software
        • Knowledge of the different wealth management services (advisory, discretionary, etc.)
        • Demonstrated experience moving into new business domains and quickly adapting
        • Experience trading stocks or making personal investment decisions

The Work Environment
  • This opportunity is offered at one of our offices: Toronto, Canada, or Madrid, Spain. We are currently working in a hybrid environment, with 3 days in the office.

  • Occasional travel to client offices may be required.
