Meet Benevity

Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!

Benevity is seeking a highly experienced Product Owner to lead the strategic development and management of our data ecosystem. In this critical role, you will oversee the full data lifecycle, ensuring the delivery of robust data products that serve two distinct but equally critical audiences: our external enterprise clients seeking impact insights, and our internal stakeholders requiring operational and financial intelligence.

You will act as the technical liaison between business units and data engineering, ensuring that our data architecture is scalable, governed, and capable of supporting high-performance reporting and analytics.

What you’ll do:

  • Establish and enforce comprehensive data governance policies, focusing on data lineage, quality standards, and master data management (MDM).
  • Ensure all data products and systems adhere to strict regulatory standards (GDPR, CCPA) and internal security protocols, particularly regarding Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and financial transaction data.
  • Define and maintain a centralized data dictionary to ensure metric consistency (e.g., defining "Active User" or "Donation Volume") across both internal financial reporting and external client dashboards.
  • Direct the roadmap for internal data warehousing and pipeline architecture. Collaborate with architects to prioritize technical improvements that enhance data latency, reliability, and scalability.
  • Partner with Finance, Strategy, and Customer Success teams to define requirements for internal dashboards and operational reporting. Ensure internal teams have access to a "Single Source of Truth" for decision-making.
  • Oversee the requirements for integrating data across disparate internal business systems (e.g., CRM, ERP, and the core Benevity platform) to ensure seamless data flow and availability.
  • Define and prioritize the backlog for customer-facing analytics features, including impact reporting, benchmarking tools, and visualizations that demonstrate ROI to corporate clients.
  • Oversee the requirements for embedding data visualizations directly into the client user interface, ensuring high performance and an intuitive user experience.
  • Manage requirements for external data accessibility, including client-facing APIs and secure data extracts for integration with client-side Business Intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Maintain a prioritized backlog that balances new feature development (customer value) with technical enablers (infrastructure, debt reduction, and security).
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear, technical user stories and acceptance criteria for Data Engineers and BI Developers.
  • Facilitate regular communication between technical teams and business stakeholders to manage expectations regarding delivery timelines and roadmap trade-offs.

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in Product Management or Product Ownership, with a specific focus on Data Platforms or Business Intelligence.
  • Demonstrated experience managing products that serve both internal operational needs and external customer reporting.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data validation and analysis. Ability to understand complex data models (Star Schema, Snowflake) and API specifications.
  • Familiarity with modern cloud data architectures (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, Databricks) and visualization tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, PowerBI).
  • Proven experience implementing data governance tools and processes in a multi-tenant SaaS environment.
  • Ability to balance immediate tactical needs with long-term architectural goals.
