Product Designer

AI Agents are all the rage. And rightfully so. We think future intelligent systems will enable entirely new paradigms for productivity and raise important questions about human-computer interactions.

We are seeking a user-centric, craft-obsessed designer to lead one of our core agentic workflows. We’re looking for a super-IC with an inherent desire to make something great. You’ll be armed with an open calendar, no bureaucracy, no PMs, talented engineers, direct access to any customer, and a massive mandate.

At Flatfile, we design products that help simplify the complex and unpredictable world of data migration. This role blends systems thinking, care of craft, and frontier thinking as we apply AI into a relatively nascent business application space.

Join us to be at the forefront of this transformative journey.

Why are we hiring for this role now?

As Flatfile evolves to an AI-first product experience, this role will ensure our product experience is at the bleeding edge of technology and user interaction. This strategic role will greatly influence our product direction and company goals, making it one of the most impactful positions within our team.

You will play a crucial role in shaping how a $2T industry thinks about the intersection of data operations and AI. Your opportunity is to craft an experience that feels fluid, human, and delightful.

While there is no such thing as an average day at Flatfile, you’ll routinely be involved in deep dives into user behaviors, crafting new design patterns, interaction modalities, and HCI philosophies.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Work from first principles and customer insights to shape a natively agentic experience
  • Lead end-to-end design projects, participate in weekly design critiques, and work closely with engineers and other stakeholders to ensure a high-quality implementation
  • Move quickly to test your hypotheses with designs, prototypes, and customer interviews
  • Inform which projects should be prioritized on the roadmap
  • Hold the bar high for design craft through design reviews and pair design sessions
  • Obsess over small details until they’re perfect
  • Help establish early processes that continue to refine our design practice
  • Ship weekly

Consider applying if:

  • You develop strong mental models through data, research, and first principles
  • Have a passion for figuring out best-in-class solutions to UX, UI, and interaction challenges
  • Have a portfolio of excellent product designs delivered within a fast-paced environment
  • You possess the ability to think through complex interaction design
  • You possess the ability to express ideas through visuals and prototyping
  • You have excellent visual, UI, and interaction skills
  • Fluent or developing fluency in AI principles
  • You know how to leverage AI tools to accelerate your work and improve the quality of your thinking and contributions

Bonus points if:

  • You have experience with design systems, programming, and using technical tools like Git, VSCode, Origami
  • You have front-end development experience. Familiarity with React is a bonus but not required. Your expertise should focus on leveraging design tools to their fullest potential.

While many Product Designer roles are similar, Flatfile’s Designer roles are unique. With that in mind, you should pass on applying if:

  • You refrain from engaging in or find it challenging to handle debates about the future state of products; we need someone who can have an opinion yet remain open-minded.
  • You would prefer to avoid challenging the status quo or pushing the boundaries of technical possibilities, as this role demands continuous learning and adaptation to new technologies.
  • You lack attention to detail or do not value the craftsmanship of design.
  • You don’t want to decide on the best-paved road to build for Flatfile and expect a lead or manager to make the final call on what that is.
  • You’ve never worked in a fast-paced environment. We move quickly. And a lot of places say that, but trust us, we really do. If you’re one who gets frustrated when priorities change rapidly, we’re not the place for you.

What tools will you use?

  • Primary tools include Figma for design tasks, with an openness to incorporating Generative AI tools.

In accordance with applicable law, the following represents Flatfile's reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation for this role if hired in Colorado.

Salary: $190,000 - $220,000 annually

Equity: this role is eligible to participate in Flatfile's equity plan
