Product Designer for Internal Platforms
At Interac, we design and deliver products and solutions that give Canadians control over their money so they can get more out of life. But that’s not all. Whether we’re leading real-time money movement, driving innovative commerce solutions like open payments for transit systems, or making advancements in new areas like verification and open banking, we are playing a key role in shaping the future of the digital economy in Canada.
Want to make a lasting impact amongst a community of creative thinkers, problem solvers, technical virtuosos and high-performance application developers? We want to hear from you.
As a Designer for Internal Automation Platforms, you will be an integral part of our platform delivery team, working closely with product managers on the platform, tech leads, engineers, and other stakeholders to design software development automation for our new platform.
The platform you will help deliver is based on a leading cloud service provider. Our goal is for the platform to provide everything that our product lines need to release products quickly and with confidence. Our vision is to provide “zero touch” deployment for our software development community from commit to production at will. We are assembling the platform from cloud-native infrastructure, networking, and services, as well as cloud-based IaC and DevSecOps tooling, treating the software developers in our product lines as the primary user who we aim to make happy.
Our ideal candidate is someone who started out in software development, became frustrated with manual tasks needed to provision infrastructure and deploy code, then set to work making life better through automation. You really understand the needs of software developers, because you have been one yourself. And you've seen the benefits of strong automation, both in terms of the time it gives to concentrate on coding, and the insight it can give you into the quality of what you are releasing. For you, the prospect of making it your full-time job to work daily with software developers to help deliver to them a platform that both improves their lives and is dead-easy for them to use just makes sense. If this sounds like you, we want to hear from you right away!

Skills: Software development; experience with common automation tooling (e.g. Github Actions, Terraform, Artifactory, Sonarqube); exposure to tools such as Figma or Miro (we use a clone from Miro).

You'll be responsible for:
You will follow a prescribed model for working with clients in the Interac product lines, focusing on discovery, design, and delivery to ensure our platform meets user needs and business goals. You will operate as the designer within a “three amigos” leadership model, sharing accountability for squad deliverables with a Product Manager and a Tech Lead. If you have not worked in this model, or feel like you lack specific design experience, don’t panic! We at Interac are aware that few with the software development experience we are looking for will have had the opportunity to formally train in these skills. We are committed to finding people with the right enthusiasm and aptitude to learn these valuable skills in conjunction with the experience-based skills learned in the past. We will support you with training and peer enablement as you grow into these responsibilities and you will be met with understanding as learn by doing.
