Hi, I'm Ricky Knight, Product Design Manager for the Booking Group. I joined Jane about 18 months ago, and since then I've had the chance to work with a team that touches nearly everything that happens before and around an appointment. We help patients find care, book care, and stay connected to that care, while also giving clinics tools that help them grow. It's work that sits right at the heart of Jane's mission to help the helpers.

I care deeply about creating psychological safety as an unlock for high performance, and I try to bring that mindset into every conversation and project. I believe that without trust and safety, high performance isn't possible; it's one of the core reasons I joined Jane in the first place. When we trust and support each other, the sky is the limit on what we can do.

Outside of design, you'll find me hanging out with my tiny poodle Poppy, playing video games (I built my own PC for this), or diving into one of my 30+ board games with the family. I'm also a bit of a foodie who loves exploring new restaurants in Vancouver.

We're hiring a Design Manager to join our Communications team. This is a hybrid player–coach role where you'll spend roughly 60% on hands-on product design and 40% on people leadership. You'll manage a small group of designers to start, partner closely with the sub-group PM and Development Manager, and work alongside Staff and Design Management to drive quality and cohesion across patient and practitioner touchpoints within Communications (Secure Messaging, SMS and more). This is a meaningful opportunity to shape the future of how our helpers communicate with their patients and grow leadership capacity within Booking Design

The impact you could have
  • Elevate quality and cohesion across Communications flows and surfaces, ensuring accessible, modern experiences

  • Define and own key patterns for the area, improving predictability and polish across releases

  • Run high‑signal critiques and QA rituals that improve velocity and outcomes across the triad

  • Align roadmaps with PM and Dev partners, unblocking work and clarifying trade‑offs

  • Develop designers through clear growth plans, feedback, and coaching to build capability in areas they need.

The experience we feel we need
  • Senior or above craft depth with a portfolio that shows clarity, systems thinking, and high visual polish

  • Proven ability to lead end‑to‑end discovery and translate insights into durable patterns and shipped outcomes

  • Experience mentoring or managing designers, including running 1:1s and giving actionable feedback

  • Strength in cross‑functional leadership with PM and Engineering to co‑lead strategy and execution

  • Comfort owning design operations and standards for your own product area, including accessibility and component usage from our Design System

Compensation & Benefits

At Jane, we’re committed to paying fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has an annual salary range of $144,000 to $225,000 While that is a large range, it is intentional. It reflects the full growth journey someone might take in the role, from developing skills early on to becoming highly proficient and ultimately achieving excellence.

Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, which for this role represents an annual salary of $171,000. A starting salary below this typically indicates a candidate with strong potential who is still developing key skills. Salaries above this usually apply to existing team members who have made a significant impact and bring deep Jane-specific knowledge.

We believe in paying for growth. You’ll have regular career development conversations with your manager, and your compensation will grow as you gain experience and contribute meaningfully to our mission.
