Fireflies.ai is the AI assistant for meetings, trusted by 20M+ users across 1M+ organizations.
We’re hiring a Product Counsel (first in-house legal ops + strategy hire) to own legal intake, contracts, and security/compliance workflows—working closely with Product, Engineering, Security, Sales, and outside counsel.

What you’ll do:
1) Inbound legal triage (incl. subpoenas)
  • Be the first point of contact for subpoenas, depositions, civil/government inquiries.
  • Build the subpoena intake → triage → outside counsel coordination process and keep documentation tight.
  • Maintain a simple internal tracker so stakeholders always know status/next steps.

2) Contracts & deal support
  • Review/draft/negotiate NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, DPAs, and strategic partnership agreements.
  • Maintain a lightweight playbook (preferred clauses + fallbacks) to increase deal velocity.
  • Escalate complex/high-ACV negotiations to outside counsel as needed

3) Security questionnaires & compliance responses
  • Own customer security questionnaires end-to-end and improve turnaround time.
  • Build/maintain a centralized Q&A source of truth; use automation/AI where helpful.
  • Integrate the workflow with internal tooling (Slack/CRM/Notion/Vanta).

4) Product law & AI regulatory guidance
  • Advise on product decisions with legal implications (e.g., desktop apps, background recording, consent flows)
  • Stay ahead of the AI note-taker legal landscape (recording/biometrics/consent)
  • Keep key legal documents current as the product evolves (Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, DPA, Business Terms, etc).

5) Cross-functional partnership
  • Translate technical realities (data flows, encryption, AI model usage, storage) into clear, defensible contract language
  • Help internal teams handle compliance requests and customer trust conversations well.

Requirements:
  • 3–5+ years in legal operations, AI law, contract management, or paralegal work—preferably in SaaS or AI
  • Comfort owning redlines independently, with good judgment on escalation
  • Technical fluency (you can read architecture notes, understand APIs/security posture, and ask the right questions)
  • Familiarity with privacy/security/AI considerations (e.g., GDPR/CCPA/BIPA, SOC 2) is a plus.
  • Strong writing, negotiation, and cross-functional communication skills.

Why this role
  • First in-house legal ops hire with real ownership and leverage via automation.
  • Work on unsettled, high-impact AI legal questions (consent, background capture, biometrics, AI liability).
  • Flexible start: retainer/contract first, then full-time if it’s a great mutual fit.

Values that matter here
  • Great communication and over-communication when things are ambiguous.
  • Customer trust and security-first thinking.
  • Fast, incremental iteration + automation wherever possible.
  • Accountability, initiative, and continuous learning (aim for 10% better every week).
  • Candid feedback and a results-first mindset.
  • Impact-chasing over title-chasing.

Hiring process
  1. Apply (resume + short cover note)
  2. Initial chat (30 min)
  3. Skills assessment (90 min): security questionnaire sprint
  4. Panel (30 min)
  5. Exec interview (30 min)
  6. Offer + onboarding
