AtkinsRéalis’s Minerals and Metals team in Canada is made up of more than 400 employees who work on large-scale projects to support mining sustainability, pit-to-port opportunities, metallurgical plant engineering, or mine closure and capabilities in the study, design, and construction of mining projects across a wide range of mining and processing methods and commodities. The Process Engineering team is looking for a Process Engineering Specialist to work on a variety of projects, particularly related to extractive metallurgy, from mineral processing and concentration to hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes for metal production. Although the function is essentially technical in nature, it includes significant leadership and Project/Study/Engineering management.

The Process Engineering Specialist will report to the Director of Process Engineering. The position is based in Toronto, Ontario and offers a hybrid work schedule.

Your role
  • Act as Process Lead on projects or studies.
  • Mentoring, guidance, supervision, and development of junior colleagues.
  • Engage with clients to understand project requirements.
  • Process scope definition and technology selection.
  • Lead trade-off studies to resolve options.
  • Identify, scope and manage process test work (on site or laboratory based).
  • Select and size the equipment for projects including the development of specification sheets.
  • Develop and supervise development of process deliverables (process design criteria, mass and heat balances, design of process flow diagrams, P&IDs and process control logic).
About you
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Processing Engineering, with a strong foundation in process design, technology selection, and mineral processing systems.
  • 20+ years of progressive, relevant experience since completion of a Bachelor’s degree (or 18 years since Master’s), with the typical incumbent bringing 25+ years of experience leading complex process engineering studies and projects.
  • Demonstrated advanced technical writing, presentation, and stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to influence technical decisions and client outcomes through high-quality reports, design documentation, technical presentations, published papers, and/or active participation in technical committees.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada, or eligibility to obtain registration
  • Proven ability to lead, supervise, and develop complete process engineering deliverables, including process design criteria, mass and heat balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, process control philosophies, and the technical mentoring of junior engineers.

Expected compensation for this role is (between Pay Range $156,400 - $215,100 annually) (Only Applicable to Ontario). Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
