We're looking for a Principal Game Developer to join our talented Angry Birds Dream Blast team in either Finland or Barcelona and help us continue to craft joy for millions of players. In this role, you'll be a key technical expert, tackling complex challenges and elevating our engineering practices to shape the game's future. This is a deeply hands-on position where your passion for quality and technical excellence will make a huge impact.

You'll work with a team committed to creating the best possible player experiences. The team works in a hybrid mode today with weekly presence in the office. If you are already in Finland or Spain, we can support the work permit transfer, however, we are not able to provide relocation assistance for this role.

You will have impact and fun at work by:

  • Contributing to the definition of the tech roadmap and architecture for the game
  • Architecting and implementing key technical improvements that bring the performance, stability, and scalability of Angry Birds Dream Blast to the next level
  • Diving deep into the codebase on a daily basis to solve complex problems with forward-thinking solutions and proactively identifying further improvement areas, ensuring our game runs smoothly for every player
  • Building and improving high-performing, scalable solutions, tools, and practices that support the whole development team
  • Owning the game's tech stack, understanding how all the systems connect, and finding new opportunities for optimization and robustness
  • Guiding and mentoring other developers, sharing your expertise and nurturing a culture of technical excellence and growth
  • Collaborating with technical experts across Rovio, contributing your insights to elevate our engineering craft as a whole.

Experience and skills we are looking for:

  • Significant experience (10+ years) in game development, including deep hands-on expertise (5+ years) as a technical architect or similar role on Unity-based F2P mobile games
  • A history of successfully architecting complex mobile games that have scaled to thousands of players
  • A deep understanding of Unity, with a curiosity for how other game engines solve complex problems
  • Deep experience optimizing the performance of large-scale mobile games, with a genuine passion for creating a best-in-class performance and player experience, where you understand the trade-offs and successfully balance them in order to deliver outstanding results
  • Track record of consistently delivering high-quality technical solutions, while operating under business, technology or time constraints, where you are able to work in a fully autonomous way while ensuring full adoption by the team afterwards
  • Enthusiasm for sharing and upholding excellent engineering practices, including SOLID principles, TDD, clean architecture, and thoughtful design patterns
  • You've been part of the full journey of a F2P game's life, from the first prototype all the way through to live operations, and know how to own the live technical KPIs, ensuring monitoring those is part of your and your peers daily routine
  • Expertise working alongside a set product roadmap where you are able to devise the right long-term, scalable solutions that will support it
  • Proactivity & Innovation mindset and a continuous drive to challenge the status quo, bring new ideas and solutions, and lead initiatives to improve processes and technology
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
