Join Micron’s outstanding engineering team in Longmont, CO, and play a key role in shaping the future of how the world uses information. As a Principal Firmware Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge memory and storage technologies that push the limits of innovation. This role is ideal for ambitious engineers who are ready to excel on a global stage and deliver groundbreaking technical solutions.

In this position, you will develop high‑performance controller firmware for both volatile and non‑volatile memory systems. You will contribute to the evaluation, design, development, bench testing, debugging, and failure analysis of firmware for next‑generation memory controllers and solid-state drives (SSDs). Your work will help enhance system performance while reducing power consumption, latency, and overall SoC (System-on-Chip) complexity across multiple target sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction and architectural leadership for firmware subsystems spanning controller, platform, and system integration.

  • Drive firmware build decisions that optimize performance, power, latency, reliability, and maintainability across product lines.

  • Lead technical reviews, influence development standards, and establish guidelines for firmware development, quality, and validation.

  • Build, develop, and optimize embedded firmware using C/C++, low-level programming concepts, and scripting/tooling as needed.

  • Conduct detailed debugging and failure analysis across firmware, hardware, and system interactions using lab equipment and software instrumentation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 7+ years of experience in embedded firmware/software development.

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and low-level debugging in embedded environments.

  • Experience in firmware verification and validation, debugging, and failure analysis within laboratory and system settings.

  • Experience with storage technologies and/or memory systems, and collaborating with hardware teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of storage interfaces such as PCIe/NVMe and system-level storage architectures.

  • Hands-on experience with NAND flash, non-volatile memory technologies, or memory controllers.

  • Experience with ASIC/FPGA bring-up, pre-silicon validation, simulation, or hardware/software co-debug.

  • Strong scripting/tool development skills (e.g., Python) and experience building debug/validation automation.

  • Demonstrated ability to influence technical direction across teams, lead ambiguous problem solving, and mentor engineers.
